DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

@ Morkhans , thanks for the answer , can I use the the DataSIM #2 that only has the internetvpn and iphone APN to connect to the web and browse normally on my netbook or laptop?
Shot bru

That's what I am doing ;)

@ Morkhans - Mmm , so whats really the restriction to not having internetapn and only the internetvpn? Do I need to do a little "google research" on some emulator or proxy tunnel to trick the sim into thinking i'm using a vpn while actually just browsing the web?
Does vpn maybe block some webpage types ie java or php or some other limitation

Or is it good to go web browsing with just the internetvpn - Never used vpn before , I know what it is but not the scope of its useage.
want to get 2 data sims today dependiung if the 2nd one will be useful .... life may be quite pleasant with 3 sims all sharing 1 data bundle

Back in the day the internetvpn APN had VPN specific ports open and different NAT-ing for the people using VPN clients. Now it's pretty much the same as the internet APN. So you should be able to do anything on the internetvpn APN that you can do on the internet APN.

Awesome - Getting it setup later today , Will post the results

Got the Data sim up and runinning within 2hrs - Brilliant- Amazing!!! as for the 2nd data sim only for blackberry... Lady didnt know what I was talking about - Ok taking my laptop with next time to show her the vodacom website!!! Aait

From the search button on the Vodacom site.

What is the easiest way to get two sims to pull off the same 2gb databundle at the same time?

V3G - please give detail and the secret words that I can use at the Vodashop.

PS - searched vodacom.co.za for datasim and twinsim and no documents found.

2 sims 1 data contract

I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a solution to something which seems simple...

I have a MyMeg Advanced data contract and have 2 datacards that I want to use the same contract. I don't need them to be connected simultaneously (although that would be nice) but do not want to continually swap the sim card out as my one device is built into my laptop. I requested a 2nd sim card and have tried a number of times to just have it activiated and linked to the same account but it does not ever activate or show a signal. I have called Vodacom Data support line who just keep send the sim to be registered.

I have read about Twin Call and Data Sim but it all seems to suite other needs. Twin Call is for voice contracts (ie when you have a 2nd phone like a car phone) and Data Sim can only be linked to what Vodacom refer to as a "Normal" contract ie not a data contract which does not suite my need.

"Only standard Contract packages qualify for Data SIM and will not be available on any MyMeg packages, HSDPA or 3G packages." - http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/data_sim/terms_and_conditions.jsp

Any assistance or hint on how others have done this would be massively appreciated.

Cheers

Twin Call can be used. But both sims can not be switched on at the same time. The one that is switched on last will be the active one on the network. I have never activated Twin Call on a data contract but I do not see a reason why not.

I have just checked on our system and data sim is not a available VAS to be activated on a data contract, so Twin Call will be the only option remaining.

It's rather curious that you can have Twin Call but not DataSIM on a data contract.

mmm Morkans...I am not 100% sure, but I think the reason for this could be that the main aim of data sim is for someone who has a normal voice contract and has a 3G modem that he would like to use. Seeing that he has the modem already he just needs the data bundle. So, we activate the data bundle on his voice contract and activate the data sim. Now he can use his phone and modem at the same time. That is what the Data Sim product was designed for as their was obviously a need and demand for it. Swopping your sim in and out of your phone and into your modem was driving people crazy and i guess a lot of wear and tear on sims. I understand what you trying to do but there is no product yet to meet that specific need as far as I know. Not sure if the demand for such a product is there either. Perhaps VD can give his input.

+1

Was designed for this yes.

Still not working

After many back and forths my 2nd sim on my data contract will still not pick up a signal with the TwinCall service. Really not sure what else can be done. Has anyone been able to get a data card on different sims to link to one contract. I can't use the Data Sim option as my voice contract is with MTN :(

Well I can see it being useful for either family to share a bundle or even small office environment with some floating 3G modems. Obviously bad news for Vodacom because rather than signing 2 x 500MB contracts you could have 1 x 1GB + a DataSIM. Would be cool if they could implement it though.

For a office a B970 router would be nice. Has wifi so many wifi laptops and PC's can connect to the one router utilizing one sim and one data bundle :D

wish that would help my cause - My one machine is at home and the other is at the office...

What I meant was some 3G modems to share between the people when they need to go onsite or work from home. Running your business with 3G as your primary internet connection you need to be making lots of money :p

hydsea, I am sorry that I could not help u...but as mentioned on the phone you will have to contact Nashua mobile. I have confirmed that on VSPC's side we would be able to activate twin call on a data contract, so I see now reason why Nashua mobile would not be able to do the same.
