DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

I personally would go with the 3G Modem option and data sim product from Vodacom.

Some guys here will suggest to you using your phone as a modem and just loading a data bundle on there......at the end of the day it is all about personal preference.
 
Thanks. Didn't want to have to buy a new cellphone just for 3G data when a 3G modem + data card would be cheaper/better at the job.

Does Vodacom sell Huawei modems without contracts?

you kidding me, i specifically asked this question twice once at vodaworld and once on the customer care line and was told that this does not exist and cannot be done...aarrrgggggg

how long has this option been available?
 
hmmm, R5 once off for a new prepaid sim card

OR

R97 + R105 once off connection + sim fees and R9 per month thereafter for an additional data sim.

why is it so expensive?

I don't know, but for me the saving in hassle only having to manage one data bundle and the fact that bundles get cheaper the bigger you buy makes it worthwhile.

The connection fee includes the SIM card, from Vodacom Customer Care anyway.
Cellucity wanted to charge me for the SIM and the connection fee.
 
Sim and connection is charged seperately when you get it from a store. You have to pay the store for the sim card and then the connection fee gets charged to your account. My sister uses data sim for her embedded laptop. Works like a bomb. Very convenient.
 
2 or more sim cards liked to 1 account

just imagine how awesome it would be to have more than one sim card linked to a single account or at least data bundle? then i don't have to constantly swap one sim card with my home wlan/hspa router with my hspa usb device i use with my laptop. i can even share the data bundle with my cellphone then without having to buy 3 different bundles.

quite sure it must be technically possible, but certainly less profitable to the telco's...
 
It's only possible on contract with Vodacom - you pay a little extra every month. You also can't call off both at once or use data on both at once or something like that. My dad was looking at it a while ago, it's sounded like a bit of a pain.

probably got nothing to do with the actual costs. its merely two different business models to make sure you reel in two different markets:

* contacts: usually higher income market,
* prepaid: usually lower income market.

reminds me of the cheap bank account solutions introduced by the banks not too long ago, or the price difference of the exact same african curio next to a mpumalanga road vs. the airport duty free shop.
 
Data Sim on Top-up

Does anybody knows why you can not use a Data Sim on a Top-up contract?

I always use a data sim on my contract and it was one thing I loved about Vodacom as it is extremely convenient and cost evective. But I have migrated to a top-up contract and suddenly I can not use it anymore. I'm actually very upset about this, as I can not use the data bundels I have on my contract on my data card. This means I need to buy a seperate bundel for my datacard.

Because Top-up is aligned with the pre-paid system, which does not allow for DataSIM. Other than systems not allowing you to do so, I can't see why they could not let you have a DataSIM on top-up.
 
There is a more technical reason why it is not available for Topup

These are the other packages that it is not available for:

Vodacom Shared Talk
3G One
HSDPA Broadband
