DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

SIM card pairing

My Dad has a setup where his phone data uses his data contract data. Somehow he has the two sim cards paired. Can anyone shed a little light on the matter?

You allowed upto 3 sims linked onto your main sim.
A twincall sim, data sim for usb modems/data cards and a Blackberry sim.
 
remember, with twin call only one sim can be utilized at a time on the network. with data sim, both sims can be active on the network at the same time.
 
also, data sim carries a monthly subscription of about R9 plus once off activation fee of R97.00. Twin Call only carries the once off activation fee of R97.00 :)
 
Do I really need a second SIM for my 3G USB Modem?

Hi,

Just bought a Vodafone 3G USB stick today after realising my Nexus One doesn't tether .. an hour before a meeting.

Anyway, I had to get another sim card because they don't sell them without so I just got a R10 sim.

My question is, I already have a contract - is it not possible to have a 'copy' of my SIM / a data SIM for the 3G device? Or must it be two separate sims with two separate numbers?

Just what you need, a Data SIM, it will allow you to share the data bundle between your Nexus 1 and your 3G card.
 
The cool thing about the DataSIM is you can load one data bundle and it will be shared between the phone and the modem :)
 
While we are on this thread, what is the cheapest device to connect via 3G, whether a phone or modem, to be used for data ONLY?

This question can be interpreted in two ways.

If you mean the cost of the hardware, then I guess if you have a old 3G/EDGE phone lying around, then the phone would be cheaper instead of buying a new modem. I have found years ago that a phone as a modem does not work aswell for this purpose as apposed to a proper modem though. Not sure if this has changed.

If you mean by the amounts of data being transmitted respectively for the same web page to load for example, then no...there is no diff. The amount of data being transmitted is determined by browser, web page requested etc etc, not the hardware being used to transmit it.....at least that is what I think.

I'm basically wanting to purchase a new product that lets me connect to the internet while on the move, whether it be phone or modem, so that my cellphone isn't tied up to the internet if I need it for a call. How do cheap 3G cellphone compare in price to a USB modem (Huawei ?)
