Unbeliveably thick person at DSTV in N1 City.

Neighbour wants to pay annually and according to statement, is Standard subs - R 10 548,00, Access fee - R 1 380,00. Less annual payment discount - R 879,00. Total - R 11 049,00

She said, no, it is R12 807,00. She was adding the discount, not subtracting it. She would not budge and refused to fetch someone else. We walked to another counter and got sorted

All to typical - these days - EISH!!

My mom needs to get a new decoder. Is there a simple way to activate a new decoder without having to call noobs at the call centre?

3 ways - go to a *MC service centre, else an *agent, else fork out some bucks and let an installer do it all.

* Take any older decoders with you.

How many people don't understand their account, put too much money in?
Certainly looks like intentional confusion..

Payment processed a few days ago, now got a future-use credit balance of R58 (confirmed by statements, which run late naturally).
Will cover R29 due 16 April.
Will cover R29 due 16 May.
Will only need to pay more in by 16 June.

Yet... we get this kind of misleading wording, and weird representation of the balance:
(BTW, minus sign for a positive balance is normal practice.)

dstv account twist 2.png

So for those who still don't know after all these years;
They're reflecting the balance that will be due (not the actual balance), and only due in about 26 days time.

After deduction on 16 April it will say R0.
Edit: This is the important one - gives the first impression that the account is empty, something already then due, yet there's still nearly 2 full months' credit available.

After deduction on 16 May it will say R29, finally correct re an amount being due, but only due a month later.

Edit: Why say something is due when nothing is due? Why claim 25 viewing days left when that's a huge shortfall of the actual period paid for? Why are management likely to claim again if challenged that it's just a misunderstanding / oversight.... decades later??

It's because they shut down our forum..... no more QA and UAT :D

I've been wondering about this lately, to do with EasyView and you seem to have answered my question (without me having to contact them).

I'm almost sure some years ago, if you switched to the lowest package at R20 pm (the amount I remember), they forced you to pay for the entire year in advance ?

Do you agree, because if so, that was some underhanded tactic ? (IMHO).
That ensured they got a year's payment up-front AND if within that year, if you decided to upgrade, that year's payment was lost while you started again paying a higher price for the new one.
Encourages one to stay put on what you have (ie. more expensive package).

But these days with so much choice out there, have they relaxed things by allowing monthly payments to keep DStv going ?

I'm thinking of going this route end of March, or cancelling outright now I've got things setup the way I want them.

A long post over just R29 !

Not for a very long time, but I think I do remember that happening over 20 years ago.
Who knows how you would confirm either way :-/

What I have seen sometimes is some difficulty in switching between an annual and monthly arrangement, in either direction and on any package, but that's just more of their bumbling with the help centre.

Can't be too careful with this service :giggle:

Think I was caught out by it, at that R20 pm figure, whereby landed up paying for the year. Not a lot I know, but back to the principle (of how companies do things, deviously sometimes).

No technical issue (so wrong thread, I know).

As stated in the past, I changed to switching between the various packages through WhatsApp and has worked well.

Don't know how monthly to yearly (and vice versa) would be handled in WhatsApp, or if it even can be.

Thread is nearly 3 years old so has changed a lot, general DStv service discussion thread now I think.

Took us years to list all the tech issues on our minds... scary thought. But I would say there's been some improvements, even the Explora software seems to have stabilised just enough touch wood.

I always feel I'm "letting the side down", if I derail a thread !

And I tend to do it more often than I like.

Those who automatically record Carte Blanche - season 36 ending next Sunday so a new recording setup needed afterwards.

Strange that they're doing 53 episodes this year, how did they manage that?
