Death Penalty

If you have no respect for human life then you have no right to respect for your right to life (at the taxpayers expense nogal) so I support the death penalty in any shape or form

You lost me there.
Please elaborate.

Sounds great if it works as advertised.

However, the 2nd ingredient can negate the effects of the anaesthesia, and because it's a paralytic the person executed can be in excruciating pain while also being totally paralysed.

Doesn't sound very humane to me...

Dont worry, he wont remember :D

[OT]Whilst I use that as a joke, insurance companies are forcing some operation to be done without anaesthetic - instead they use a substance that just makes you forget the pain as its much cheaper. Same principle I suppose. Heard it on 702 so no linky but will look.[OT\]

Part of the constitution should read that if you take away the rights of another person by theft, rape murder or any other means then automatically you loose your own right to humanity. There should be no human rights for criminals. They should be abolished and taken away. the death penalty Ala Iraqi style must be the favorite means. The Western/USA way takes too long.

Out of the thousands apon thousands of modern day executions, how many innocents have there been? Always amazes me that people play that angle.

I agree with UnoPanelvan: serious and heinous crime should exclude you entirely from society, and you should forfeit your rights to participate entirely. Even to vote in an election.

I really couldnt care less how they go to be honest.

I do support the death penalty in principle, however it would not work in SA due to the corruption and k@k courts system. Another aspect, if rapists and murderers are getting minimal sentences these days, then what kind of crime would warrant the death penalty here?

Who knows, Who cares. If a few poor innocent souls fall for the cause and thus saving hundreds of other lives then if it is detected that he was innocent then give him an honorary military burial and compensate his family for him doing a good deed. At least it will be only a few and we will be able to trust and live again.

So to everyone supporting the death penalty (by whatever means) - would you change your mind if you were falsely accused of murder and sitting on death row?

I would most certainly change my mind. I am no martyr for the death penalty cause. This is exactly why I agree in principle, but not in practice in SA. The courts must be flawless and corrupt-free before I go ahead with the death penalty. Although its introduction might certainly decrease crime figures and I might be willing to take the chance that I am falsely accused. I think the pros outweigh the cons actually so although I reserve the right to change my mind on my death-bed, I would probably still support it and continue trying to defend myself.

I know mistakes happen but how many people sitting on 'death row' are actually innocent? Odds are against it I think

Just another convenient translation to suit our purposes.

We show that killing is wrong by killing.

What a brilliant idea.

Please provide proof that the death penalty or the threat thereof reduces crime.
