What do you guys recommend as a bread knife because I'm not spending R2 800 to replace that knife if nobody can sharpen them.

Wusthof don't offer a sharpening service and couldn't suggest anyone.

Sorry for big pics and not sure why the knives look grubby?

Oh no! It’s unbelievable that knife-sharpening pros would do that to a breadknife.

If you have a honing rod, I wonder if you can salvage it by running each serration along the honing rod. That what I do to keep my breadknife in order.

Wait, wait, wait.. this company did that to the bread knife..?

If so, how do they even stay in business offering a sharpening service..??

I would demand they replace the knife..

Best bread knife I ever had is a Wusthof pro super slicer....rubber damaged after a few years but still a beast...I run the steel carefully down it every now and again...

I'm very upset and annoyed, especially since it's such an expensive knife.

I am not a knife expert - need to say that off the bat - but, have you ever seen a chainsaw blade being sharpened, or possibly, have you done this before?

Possibly look see what a needle file or round polishing file would cost and have a go at fixing up that knife?

I echo this I would raise hell.

Social media is there.

If they cannot sharpen it they should say so but to do that is unacceptable.

Just curious if they let you see when you collected or not. But totally uncool!

Hmm, you're right, I'll tell Hellopeter so it's a warning to other people.

Yes, he showed me when I collected said that's what happens when a serrated knife is sharpened.

No, I haven't seen a chainsaw blade being sharpened :D

Not sure I've got the hand control to sharpen it, but worth a try and I could do it bit by bit. I've messaged Wusthof for their opinion on whether the knife can be salvaged.

Well yes, that's what happens and why they shouldn't sharpen it to begin with, id they don't have the skills/equipment to do so, which they clearly don't..

They should have simply told you from the get go, we can't sharpen serrated knives..

I don't think that knife can be salvaged by hand tools though, judging by what is visible on the pictures..

Thank you Bwana, I wondered what a round file was.

That's what's so annoying, every time I say to myself I will not be caught for a sucker again - I get caught for a sucker :ROFL:

Sadly I agree with @WAslayer that it'll never be a serrated knife again

It's not too late nothing wrong with going back if you don't mind some confrontation.

Cards on the table, I'm terrified of confrontation especially with an Indian fella because Indian ladies are usually so feminine.

..... however you've given me an idea. I have a family member who'd do anything for a good argument, I'll involve him.

Also take the bread knife, in case stabbing is necessary. Wave it around liberally.

It all turns on the point that they were unable to sharpen that specific knife and should have warned you up front. They have damaged the knife essentially sharpening it this way.

It should have been your choice.

They did you a favour...get a pastry knife/super slicer and thank them for changing your life for the better (looking at the bright side..)
