Deep cycle batteries.

Give them a call and see. If they have something you like I will go collect it and courier it to you?

When I went in on Friday to pick up my SOHO1000 they had 2 x modified 1000VA's left, and a bunch of 1500VA (pure and modified). Did not check for smaller though.

If you EFT, I can only collect after 3 days or something. I found this out on Friday AM cause I wanted to EFT so they could hold one for me. They refused, so I made a plan and went in.

ill probably end up buying the Dixon because I can drive down the road to get it.

Would there be any advantage to using multiple smaller (say 45ah) batteries to build a bank rather than 2 200ah batteries? I'm guessing there would be losses between the batteries but, from what I've read, the losses can be minimal if you use thick cabling connecting the batteries.

Many batteries in parallel have never been a good idea.

If one of them fails you won't notice it until you realise it dragged the entire bank down with it within a few weeks.

I concur ...

Took a chance with 3 strings , but was getting major voltage drop. Removed 1 string and system works fine.

Ah ok, makes sense. My thinking was that if 1 goes it's cheaper to replace rather than 1 big guy, I didn't think about it taking down the whole bank. Thanks for your advice.

Quick question and I'm hoping for a quick and easy answer.

Gel or Lead Acid?

Powering the usual TV/Media Centre/Router etc

So at this stage what is the best 105Ah batteries i can get in Cape Town for +-R1500?

not much options that I can see. more expensive most likely. 4x4 centres and most battery places. need a day to do a bit of a mini tour. ill update then. the Dixon battery looks like a possibility. asked the rep for the specsheet and the recommended DOD. im still waiting. they quick to tell you to buy it but when you ask a question they seem to ignore you.

A lot of the sellers have no idea what they're selling, just jumping on the bandwagon with the current electricity crisis. I had a guy tell me last week that the inverter I was looking at takes 3 solar panels, he proceeded to show me that where you plug them in, 1 in the pv slot, 1 in the ac slot and 1 in the battery slot. Heaven help the consumers that just trust what the salesman tells them.
