Defective New Scirocco R

For the tracker to be able to cut the fuel line it will be a much more complicated installation requiring it to either be connected to the fuel relay or CAN bus. The OP has confirmed that neither of these are the case and the unit was a single wire (ignition on) installation.

Ok cool, think i missed that post...

Thanks for the brilliant comments on fb guys :)

I've posted it up on vwclub.co.za as well as vwgticlub.co.za. Thanks @efitol, I'll post it on vwvortex tonight and tweet as per @Walls suggestion. I have limited access at work and juggling too many things atm to do much right now.

LOL the lengths a greedy company will go to to save a few grand.

You dont know the half Gnome... they've put me in an Audi A4 courtesy car yesterday. I asked the rental company what was the cost of the car per day and its R1700...

Its entirely possible that VWSA has a contract with the rental companies for this exact purpose but they're wasting money on unecessary repairs and this expensive rental vehicle yet refuse to replace the defective Scirocco.

Another inconvenience is that the "Service Due" light is on. I told Hertz Rental this morning and the car is being swapped out. So technically this is my fourth courtesy car in this saga.

I do applaud you for taking this on the way you do.

Many times you just read about people who complain in a forum or magazine's letter section about how VWSA basically told them the excessive road noise in their Polo is normal and has nothing to do with the reports of manufacturing defects in the front suspension - just as example, there are a few other popular complaints. Sometime they add that while it could be a manufacturing issue the car has been driven for long enough so that the cause could be something else.

Bottom line is they refuse to give in and in the end you loose.

this is not my car, but I am quite angry ! All big international brands will die a slow death in SA due to lax service and customer care standards... I recently bought a new Volvo and I hope it doesn't give me any troubles because I might have to go through the same thing in SA...

Good luck, make as much noise about it as possible, submit articles in consumer publications, post on their facebook page every day, call John Robbie and tell him about it. Be a nuisance!

In solidarity with Nospheratu, I will not be buying a new VW until he receives a replacement vehicle.

If you didn't put deposit, just tell the bank they can keep it or give it back to vwsa. It belongs to the bank anyway. My mother
did that with a lemon from Ford a few years back, but lost her deposit which was the car she traded in.

The alternative is to do what that one guy did with Toyota, he put up text all over his car to the effect its a piece of crap and they can phone him on given number to hear his story.
He did that, and also camped outside their dealerships with signs and banners.

Eventually they gave him a new car to make him go away, no questions asked.

'Worst 4x4xfar': GM the loser 2004-05-31 14:29

Bloemfontein - Port Elizabeth-based General Motors (GM) on Monday conceded defeat in a long-running defamation case against Jaco van der Merwe regarding his labelling his Isuzu KB280 bakkie the "worst 4x4xfar".

The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein ruled on Monday that the slogan, liberally pasted by Van der Merwe on the outside of his vehicle after a dispute with GM, Isuzu's owner in South Africa, was not defamatory.

GM, then Delta, launched an appeal after the Pretoria High Court refused in November 2002 to confirm an earlier interim interdict against Van der Merwe.

The dispute started in April 2001, when the chassis of Van der Merwe's bakkie bent while he was on holiday in Namibia. The car was a year and a day old at the time, and had about 29 000km on the clock.

Van der Merwe claimed the damage was caused by an inherent defect, and said GM had refused to repair or replace it.

For its part, GM said the damage was the result of driver abuse.

The disgruntled client launched a chain e-mail campaign denouncing the company, and stuck logos to his bakkie reading: "The worst 4X4Xfar", and "Gravel road breaks chassis". He took to displaying the bakkie in public places such as motoring shows.

Delta took the matter to court and was granted an interim interdict in June 2002 preventing Van der Merwe from exhibiting his bakkie or spreading or publishing defamatory statements about the company's products until a final court ruling.

When the matter came before court again in November, Acting Judge Roger Claassen refused to confirm the interim order and held that the slogans and e-mails were not defamatory.

The High Court subsequently denied Delta leave to appeal the ruling, and the company then approached the Supreme Court of Appeal directly.

GM maintained that Van der Merwe's conduct was defamatory and amounted to the dissemination of injurious falsehoods.

It disputed Van der Merwe's contention that his actions were protected by the constitutionally-entrenched right to freedom of speech.

The feud has attracted wide media attention with each side keen to put its case.

On Monday Doug Harrison, GM's after sales director said the case was not about the quality of Isuzu's products.

"The issue has involved defamation and Mr Jaco van der Merwe's right to freedom of expression," Harrison said.

"We undertook legal action in order to protect our extensive base of loyal, satisfied Isuzu customers all of whom have invested in the brand," he said.

"Since the start of the process we have remained confident that this matter would be resolved in our favour and that we would be vindicated by the judgement. We are disappointed by the outcome but accept the finding of the court with regard to the issue of the rights of an individual to freedom of speech," Harrison said in a statement.

Van der Merwe could not be immediately contacted for comment.

I find it so funny that the peons in charge of customer service and after service apparently dont get it - in the court of public opinion, you are already wrong. Fighting it makes you more wrong. Solving the problem quickly is the only way to save face.

By going after this guy, they would never undo the brand damage done - in fact they would probably make it worse.

In the market for a new car. VW was on the shortlist. Not anymore!!!!

VW was never on my shortlist, more so now. Must say I am impressed with Roux's postings in this thread.

Roux's post is similar to a FIAT driving around PE, it has stickers all over it saying how poor the service is and also showing that FIAT stands for "Fix It All the Time". Hi whole car s branded with negative remarks towards FIAT.

Mate of mine spoke to him once, said the guy couldn't stop talking about all the problems he had with them and he wants to make sure people know just how bad they are :F

The worst part of all this is that when they do decide to give OP a new car, they'll probably subject him to an NDA, preventing us from feeling good about our victory against "the man".
