Depression.

Sorry to hear man. When it comes to cars (anything) nothing is cheap.

What car was/is it btw & what was the final strew that sent it to the grave?
Since I am quite private, all I am gonna say is that it was an old Suzuki.
A bearing has spun, and consequently failed on the crank. It is NOT a cheap repair.
The thrust bearing failed because the clutch is horribly offset and there's smoke and extreme heat and it dies when you step on the clutch (or what's left of it).

It's 16 years old, so it's done.

I am making a plan for another car. So that will be sorted sometime soon.
I saw the therapist yesterday and it was a very long session, and very hectic on me, I didn't even bother going online last night, I took pain meds for my back spasm and fell asleep somewhere around 9:30.

We had someone resign from work, and today a chance meeting with them ended up in a conversation. He said he told the company that what happened to me was one of the key reasons why he left. So no, it never was all in my mind, or just me being over-sensitive. One of the best cases of constructive dismissal that I've ever seen and I am living in it... this beats the Nedbank case from years ago. I am still there though, by a thread.

As many have said, I cannot be without a job, I need another one to go to, then we can do the whole CCMA thing. I have one hell of a paper trail already.

Let's do this by the numbers.
1. Personal wellbeing
2. Get a new car
3. Get a good labour lawyer

And just in case they are snooping on me again at work, I am going to refrain from posting here during working hours.

Update:
As the week drags towards its end I am getting to feel a little bit better. It's not been easy but at least there are silver linings here and there.

Tomorrow I take delivery of a new car at least, so there's that. Incredibly we were able to sell the old one, blown engine and all, for a tidy sum.

Things are going quite smashingly at work, I just zone out completely about that but yeah, karma is a bitch. Some key people resigned, they just quit, and the butthurt is to thick and heavy I can smell it all the way from town to the West Coast. I would do the same if I could have another job to go to. But let me not get ahead of meself.

Besides tomorrow having to go sign the paperwork and go fetch the car and do some extremely delayed grocery shopping I am not doing anything, just going to sleep.

There only problem (I'm assuming) with having a car payment is the stress that your "bag" needs to be xx every month min. With "100% job certainty" not a real construct I could & would not take on any car debt (hopefully never).

YMMV.

The debt was not taken on lightly. It was basically a no-other-way-out situation. Without a vehicle I cannot solicit business, nor go out and work.

A lot of my personal life has come back under control, but I know now for certain that I will be retrenched in the next few months. Things blew up on Thursday morning... was told "I am incompetent" and a lot of other unsavoury things. Amazing how that all arose out of a pull request of some silly C# code.

The cost of having the roof over the head is far bigger a deal than the car repayment. Now, unlike last time I found myself on the receiving end of a masep03s company with nothing in savings, this time I have money, I have a short runway which means no retrenchment bucks need to be touched.

And I don't EVER want to code for a living again.. ever. I cannot believe what a bunch of dog eat dog that industry has become.
The software development industry deserves what is coming to it

I feel the same about the construction industry. I am now asking 25% of my hourly rate to do some work on South Africa. I feel sick. I've started to hate every single day of my useless career.

We have something in common although we work in very different industries.

Yikes, guys. I know there's really nothing I can say but just to keep on keeping on. I think there are many, many people people feeling this despair. I pray for you and for us all for better days.

I dunno how "networked" you guys are but I am incredibly active on LI in various forms & the CTC they're offering for "brand name" roles is in it's moer. A vast variety of roles across industries I might add.

Why? Companies hold all the cards. You're not happy with that CTC? Fark off, there are 50 to 100 people behind you that will accept those bucks.

Job spec as long as my arm & the pay is decent........(for 2010)!
