Developer Web Community

IRC for comments and communication

We wont be adding disqus right now.
If we do add comments (probably), we will build our own engine into the site.

But you can connect on irc - comments and discussions are welcome there!

A good place to chat, hangout, ask programming questions etc.

Freenode ##developerwebza

thanks for interest

Thats great. I appreciate your design time.

Feel free to join our irc.
If you have the time, there is going to be plenty of room for people to add to the site and expand it.

Its been 18 days of writing, styling, coding, databasing, editing, tweeting, I am going to need help with things.

The best way to change and improve things - is to get involved.

please join us on IRC

Please don't. The reason Disqus does so well is because it's a universal platform used by so many websites. Nobody wants to take the time to sign up just to comment on one site -- but if you can comment on multiple sites with the same account, then it is worth it.

As much as your system might be better, Disqus will always triumph.

Agreed. Have always found using Disqus to be the better way to go. Facebook commenting platform is also okay (I see it has been revamped), but Disqus is a better fit.

just for you

on the about page - there is a disqus - there will be only one of these.

proper discussions and community advice etc is on IRC - ##developerwebza

Question....

Is Disqus indexed?

I know Facebook is not hence why using Facebook comments on a blog hurts your SEO deep in the left bum cheeck I think Disqus is the same.

Using their API, you can make it SEO-friendly.

Facebooks?

As far as I know you can't.

I'll go see if I can find the article it's on Facebooks blog that they don't index comments and don't offer a SEO benefit content wise.

How about a live chat on the page. I know u mention IRC but not everyone that needs a quick answer wants to download irc and then configure it before searching the channel etc etc.

A live chat where anyone online can just quickly help with a question,a forum for the users to also interact with questions and more, posting about new software and tech related things. It would be really cool to have a network of local developers helping each other.

coming soon - IRC embedded

Hey Gonzo - great idea.

I have embedded the irc channel into the site.
http://www.developer.web.za/Contact/IRC

You can also access it directly from the home page.

- All you do, is enter a nick, and click connect.

if you are already registered on IRC, you can enter password, else leave it blank.
This will take you around 8 seconds to connect and talk to the community inside.

Say hi, when you join the channel.

Ah my bad did not see it was embedded into the site. Are u going to have a forum added later on,i know most dev's just use MYBB for help and advice, would be great tho. But i can understand that the website is mostly just a "learning" site.

Just checked out the irc, says my nick 'Gonzo" is already taken,i checked and there is no other gonzo online. So how is it that my nick cant be used.
