Did Cell C meet their HSPA+ coverage targets?

My friend here at Albertville is happy with the 5GB Whoosh, which he bought yesterday. I might get a 2gig this weekend or will wait until I can afford 5 gig next month.
 
When it works, it's great. Unfortunately, during January in Wierda Park Centurion, those days are not often enough.
Plus, when you report a problem, they either don't respond, don't answer, or reply back on email asking if the problem was resolved, and if not please get in touch!!!! You f@#king kidding me?

But yeah. When it works, it's great. Pfft.

Only on EDGE in Port Alfred. Which allows me to work, if not play. Still, the speed stick is the only affordable alternative here to ADSL (Which has been out of action now for 18 days and counting). A dicky bird tells me that WHOOOOSH is happening here some time in February. At the moment all I have is WIIIISH.

I got the 21Mbits speed stick, only to find that Cell C don't have coverage in Four Ways... just a few blocks from their Four Ways store. :-(

Apparently coverage will be coming in March.

Yes and the remain skeptical ,I think Cell C proved they are capable.

anybody knows if Ottery in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town has good signals. me interested in trying it out. want to download stuff quick when i want to as my 384k adsl is taking forever and ever.
 
Unfortunately this is part of what is meant by sustainable... I give CellC a lot of points, but have serious concerns about their network once it gets loaded and you actually have to start to manage and maintain it. This is where problems come in, and what costs money, and where the existing telco's have already invested, and why they say the prices are not sustainable. But I have a gut feeling this year there will be interesting things that will happen in the market due to CellC's aggressive pricing which will be to the benefit to the consumer.

CellC currently has no rural 3G coverage for towns and small towns. Do a decent coverage map comparison before you decide. Vodacom has the best 3G coverage across the country, check the coverage maps. Compare the red colours not the pinks from CellC :)

Agree, either Vodacom and MTN, who claims 50% to 60%, or Cell C, who claims 40%, coverage is lying.

Pull up all three maps, side by side (links below), and make sure you select 3G on them. Notice how the Cell C map has very few red spots while the Vodacom one has a substantially larger coverage, as does MTN.

For some strange reason, Cell C has become it's own worst enemy. A great product, at an excellent price/performance ratio is systematically being destroyed by poor marketing.

89% of gauteng covered, what a joke, they havnt covered, bassonia, glenvista, glenanda, randhart, meyersdale, germistion, these being very middle to upper class family areas, yet they cover an area like rosetenville where there is not such a big market.. Cell c are lossing out by not having all these ares covered yet.

It's clear Cell C use some strange formulas to calculate coverage.

Would be interesting to get Lars' or Ron's comments on how they calculate population and at what signal levels the maps are predicted. Indoors or outdoors?

Many complaints on this forum from Cell C users who say they are 'in coverage', but as soon as they connect throughput falls away, i.e. they are on the edge of a cell.

But if such poor conditions are taken as 'in coverage', you can artificially increase the coverage %. Looks like this is happening.

To honour the constant claims of "4 great speed" and "4 great service", Cell C should only include coverage areas where a user can get at least 3Mb/s indoors.

If the current claim of 34% is related to on-the-ground experience, a more real measurement would most likely result in a coverage of less than 20%.
