Did Cell C meet their HSPA+ coverage targets?

Telkom are you taking some notes? Cell C is showing you how a 1st world telecommunications company roll out a network upgrade. How long has 10meg been out and what percentage are you currently at? Me thinks less than 2%

Pathetic!!

Well, I am one happy camper, since I moved to Cell C last month. Excellent speeds into Richards Bay, and all other major cities that I visited over December and January (Durban, PE, Pretoria, JNB, Cape Town)

I am happy to be rid of Vodacom's ridiculous prices !!!

Thanks Cell C !!!!

i pledge allegiance to WHOOOOOSH! The rest can all take their networks and shove it up their beee-hinds.

I was going to go with Telkoms 8ta data service.....but seeing how CELL C stepped it up, I now have my own Cell C speed stick. I am very happy with it and it makes my 4meg ADSL look like a 14400baud analog dial-up service. Oh ja, I'm in Richards Bay and we have the supa fast thingy from Cell C.

...and heres the thing that swings it for me. 8ta have the network, the towers the speed....everything!.....but they chose to price just under MTN and Vodacom.
Cell C, dont really have the network, but they chose to build one and offer irresistible pricing in order to make their investment count.

...My vote (with my money) was Cell C....WELL DONE.

then you get retards and fools that say :

This may not happen anytime soon. Surajh Surjoo, senior manager of consumer segment and broadband at MTN, told MyBroadband that the current Cell C mobile data offerings are only promotional and in his opinion are not sustainable.

the article is here

I'm still with CellC every step of the way.

They're doing things the way it was meant to be done - 50/50 - the customer wins AND cellc wins.

Still need to rollout to a few big chunks of JHB. I notice i dont get great speeds in some areas South and east. However for the most part, my speeds are great.

They didn't meet their East London target, I was there a week ago and there was no Cell C 3G in the suburb that I visited.

Anyone know when Grahamstown gets Cell C 3G ? I know a few students that would love Cell C 3G !

Also a happy customer. Few growing pains here and there but I'm generally happy with the service.

According to Reichelt Cell C has met its January 2011 targets

Sorry, I have been a big Cell C fan since they started but this is bull ****e. I still do not have coverage and based on their coverage map, it looks like only 50% of Gauteng is covered.

I'm a very satisfied Cell C customer, but Cell C's coverage targets read like crime statistics. X murders per 100000 population for a specific area. Want to know what that means in real numbers? Use a random number generator and generate a population - population statistics are a joke in itself. So, where did Lars and co get the population maps they're working from?

Some suggestions to make the targets more practical:
  1. Improve the coverage map. Go and look at Vodacom's coverage map - you can just about see that your front yard is covered but not Fido's kennel in the back yard. Your map is below standard for such a superior service.
  2. Indicate which AREAS are EXPECTED to be covered by what date, say for every 2 months. Yes, I know you will get flak if you only cover Putsonderwater on the 2nd April and not at the end of March as indicated, but :wtf:!!!

Another suggestion: Get rid of Trevor and his website - they're both a waste of time and money.

Cell C FTW!

These stats are meaningless without qualification as to what they mean by "population coverage".

Cell C need to state the signal level at which they took these measurements.

It's no use you get counted in the % population covered but you can only get 100Kb/s download or cannot hold a call for longer than 5 seconds.

In other words, 40% from one operator can be very different than 40% from another.

mybroadband should get clarity on this. Although I suspect Cell C is not going to say how they calculated the number. I.e. I suspect a fair amount of artistic license.

I hate to the be the stick in the mud... I've had the promo 2GB/7.2mbsp package since last November, at first it worked really well, but so far this year has not been great. My connection drops alot, and sometimes even when it's connected there is no data throughput. This happens most often from 8pm to 11pm daily, yes I know it's probably network congestion, but that, IMO, mean that there network is not up to scratch because it can't handle peak time congestion!

Where: Brackenfell, Morgenster(close to Cape Gate)...

Come on CellC!

coverage means nothing if you're currently sitting with the frequent disconnect issue that quite few of us on the forums are having, maybe it is still teething problems, but it's damn frustrating have paid big cash upfront (I took the 60GB option) and then struggling to get the return.

My sister was on telkom dial-up for a long while. She absolutely loathed it, but that's all they could afford.

Then I told her about the CellC special. She got the white stick - and now she's very happy. Facebook opens quicker, and emails just come in and go out without waiting.

And they cut their phone bill in half. No more need to worry about high telephone bills again.

Thank you CellC for making somebody's life a lot easier.
