I put some Thule Roof Racks and Pro-ride bike racks on my car, now it makes a nice whistling sound when i go over 100km

Wonder if my heavier coil springs at the back will qualify as doing something about the suspension to prevent my untimely demise...

Sorry about the loss of your friend.

It is more likely the attitude/behaviour of the person behind the steering wheel and less to do about the car. I can bet that statistically, stock cars are involved in incidents more than modded cars.
 
Polo classic. Upgraded the sound system with a quality aftermarket one. Done properly though. No cheap flashy lights head unit and over the top sub. Alpine head unit and enough kick to put the kick drum in rock music.

Nothing cosmetic or tuning otherwise I can kiss my resale value goodbye.

...never modded any of them. I keep them standard. The closest I ever came to modding a car was adding tinted windows and leather seats to the Elantra when I bought it.

That covers two of the three mods to my car. The other one - bigger OEM wheels from the same model car (just one inch up from the originals).

My car's engine is still the same as the day I got it.

No he is alive. And really souped up cars are not driven everyday. In the 6 months after he built the car he drove it twice.First time to get mapped and the second he did not get very far... he never got to feel how the car pulls even. It is sad,I would love to have seen that car.Don't know if he still has the 2 liter 3SGTE. That was his everyday runner. Drive once very hard... Spend 6 months fixing sideshafts and CV's. Not a cheap sport.

firstly, if the car you have is not the best it could possibly be, you should not have bought it, you should have bought the best car for the money, simple logic. if it was the best it could possibly be and you then modded it to make it "better" then you are lying to yourself in one way or another (was it the best/did you make it better)

this statement holds true for engine upgrades, exhaust changes, adding spoilers, side skirts, massive sound, lights underneath and any other thing that you did to make your car "unique".

you have wasted money, time and you are actively working towards making our country a stupider place.

PS I feel the same about adding lights to Pc towers, overclocking a CPU, adding highlights to your hair, or any other waste of money to make something better for a purely Zef reason.

I didn't read the whole thread and to be honest, I don't really want to do so (too afraid I might waste time I could spend in a better fashion), but I believe people should do what they wish with what they've worked for, especially if it brings them any amount of joy and does not impede on anyone else's rights to do the same. Someone might've asked this already, but I'd love to know what you do for fun? Do you ever go on holiday? Do you enjoy a beer or glass of wine every now and then? Guess what? The money you spent on those could've gone to something better: " seriously re evaluate your life, your goals and what you are doing because you are stealing my oxegen."
 
I haven't read all pages - but I I think Magnum said suspension, brakes etc can't handle extra power?

I think quite a few models have the same same chassis and basics - yet the put a 1.4, 1.6 or 2.0 in the same body. That would be mean the 1.4 car can be modded to the very least the power of the 2.0. And they don't make it handle juuust enough to accommodate thee larger - they do have play.

In your friends case and others on here, I understand the doubling. But the majority are no more than 20% gains which the car should take

As for bike vs car, on paper it looks like the bike will slaughter a car on pull of with their sub 3 second acceleration time. However not everyone on the road has skill to do a sub 3 second. We have a sub 4 second road car that has taken just about most bikes on launch - purely because do that speed every time with no real skill required.

e.g. BMW themselves sell a software mod for 335i that increases the engine’s performance from 225 kW, 400Nm to 240 kW, 450Nm without modding anything else. Why?

Mechanical Strength = Safety Factor x Mechanical Stress

Essentially, design strength considers how much stronger the mechanical parts need to be for an intended mechanical stress.

Safety Factor = Mechanical Strength/Mechanical Stress

Car's mechanical components usually has a safety factor of 1.5 while whole car will have a safety factor up to 3. This is to ensure mechanical fatigue can sustain stress that is cyclical, repetitive, or fluctuating. Reputable mods, just like BMW exploit this safety margin without impacting on the car's overall reliability.

GTRs aren't invincible. Sure, they're quick... but... There's always a mk1 golf quicker than you. No word of lie.
