Differences between Macs and PCs

It compares PCs with Macs, why should it be in the Mac section?

Does it compare the hardware of a Mac with the hardware of a PC? Or does it compare using a Mac to using a PC, which is much more software-orientated and better suited to the Mac or Software subforums?

I don't really have enough cap to watch a YouTube video at this stage :o

EDIT: The thread in the Mac section with the third highest amount of replies is Mac vs PC, the fifth PC VS Mac, the sixth MAC or PC? so where do you think it should be? :p

Well I did not want to start a fight, I just showed a cool Ehow video with an older guy about the basic differences between Macs and PCs for non-tech savvy users.

Do watch the 'How to Choose the best Laptop' video from the same guy - you'll see that he has no pro-Mac bias there.

I just watched the vid (took a while to load on my humble 384k).

I found it offensive. But typically predictable Mac fanboi style lies and spin.

MAC really need to get over their inferiority complex. If they are so very awesome, why do they still have such a tiny market share? :o

This video is for non-technical savvy users. It explains for very basic users - first time computer buyers or upgraders the differences between Macs and Pcs and isn't meant to be a battleground for fanboys. PC buyers who don't know about Macs may see this video here and watch it - whereas if they were already had made up their mind to buy a more niche product they wouldn't need to watch this video. Also many of our tech savvy PC users like yourself can watch this video to be able to recommend to their clients in simple terms the benefits of Mac vs PC - for the non-tech savvy user.

Again this is not a debate between which system is better but a way to explain to clients the benefits of both types of personal computer systems - both are personal computers (the Mac is not a mainframe or a supercomputer) and a way for noob users to see what's available without going into the Mac subsection. This pertains to both Mac and PC users in other words.

Why are you offended? Did you design Windows?

I don't think it is a good representation of that at all - for tech savvy users or otherwise.

It just isn't any good.

Fair enough.

Fine, but it's one tool you can use to show to your clients and explain to them which OS/hardware combo is better for them. If they think they can handle AV softs then Win is for them, if they aren't capable - Mac is for them (I simplified).

I certainly wouldn't use that video to do that, though.

Fanbois irritate me, so do biased videos being proclaimed to be something which they are not.

But you have to give Mac a point - no matter what the reasons behind it - at this point in time there really is no significant malware for Macs and people who don't install warez are 100% safe for the foreseeable future. From that POV that guy is 100% correct. We can argue the reasons behind it and whether it will change in the next few years or so but so far since 2006 (when Apple went Intel) we haven't seen a proliferation of viruses for the Mac. Surely you can recognise that non-tech savvy users would benefit from such an OS than one which can be brought down by USB stick and email spreading worms and SONY CD spread rootkits?

stuff that, can it play crysis?

Can your PC play Eternal Sonata?
Yes it can play Crysis in Bootcamp mode :).
BUT the WinTel machine I'm typing this on, a Panasonic notebook PC, can't play Crysis because it has an Intel GMA GPU. :)

So what's the conclusion then?

the conclusion is spend R3000 on a 4870, and play crisis, and not R20,000 for an apple with an onboard 8600gs.

I can buy a R3K 4870 for my Mac Pro on EBay too and play Crysis in Bootcamp, too.

What's your point?

Rather buy a Mac and spend the money saved in lost productivity to buy a PS3 and play Crysis or one of other non-PC available titles there.

There's many solutions, yours is just one and not the best one either.

That reason alone is NOT enough for me to recommend MAC over PC ever.

I cannot remember the last time a virus took down a whole PC. I think it was sometime in the 90's.

We get virii the whole time at varsity. They get detected by antivirus programs, they get removed. It really is not that hard to deal with nowadays.

I cannot believe that that is the only advantage you can promote of MACs over PCs.

please, please tell me how one fits a 4870 into that iMac Screen?

a minor point. its not windows (read Microsoft) that has all the crappy share ware on the machines. if i install a retail windows 7 OS into a Machine it also does not have any crap or shareware.

Also should apple reach the size of Microsoft they would have an EU commissioner up their finely machined buts b4 the sun rose on that day for killing competition by not allowing other software manufacturers to ship their shareware junk on the Retail CD.
Case in point IE explorer and Windows media player.
(note that i use chrome on all my machines)

Btw. if apple has such superior software why did they go through all the effort to allow you to run Windows on a Mac?

Mac Pro.

And in real world terms a Mac comes with a pretty powerful GPU, if you want to upgrade GPUs in PCs you usually have to bump the mobo, CPU and RAM up as well to get full benefit of the GPU. When upgrading the GPU from a 3870 to a 4870 or even the 5xxx ATI/AMD series the GPU will sit idling while the CPU and RAM controller struggle. Upgrading never works out as well as in the BS of the punters. :)
