DigiChilli January Status and feedback

DigiChilli connection is still dead for me. I also can't browse any international sites with my Telkom account, anybody else having the same problems?

Afrihost is working 100%, International and local.

Looks like we need to redefine package speed.

I could have sworn it used to be minimum speed of 256Kbps

The DC website now states : "Up to speed of 256 kbps."

So no more complaining guys if your speeds are low.

That sucks.

Oh that would be so hilarious if I hadn't already paid for just the opposite.

I dunno. Does this mean they no longer have any intention to provide guaranteed 256?

All broadband companies operate with this "up to" clause. Those of us that understand the business aspects of how broadband is delivered all thought the guaranteed thing was kinda crazy. The only time you will ever see a guaranteed speed clause is with excessively expensive diginet lines or the like.

I wouldn't worry about this, the burden is still heavily on them to offer speeds as close to 32K as possible or else their clients will simply leave.

I know. It's pretty much an industry standard but what excited me about DC was they were ready to challenge the standard and now it seems they've tossed in the towel:(

My Digichilli is dead too, really don't like the changes to their site either. The problems they have been having I could handle, knowing they were working on it, but this sounds like they have given up on their network.

It was pure ignorance on their part to think they could guarantee minimum speeds. It simply can't be done if you operate with normal contention ratios. To get rid of contention ratios completely they would have to charge their clients 20-30 times more for their accounts.

At the end of the day this is just semantics, nobody is gonna stay with them if they only get 10K or whatever - real world speed is all that matters.

Well, I can tell you one thing - their are draft regulations out to ensure QOS for cellular and broadband providers...very soon these guys will be forced to provide what they state. For too long the SA community has been taken for a ride by false advertisers.

anybody think DC is still going to allow any bursting?

Yes, me think so. Like the suicide bomber trainer said to his students...I'm only going to show this once - DC has one chance and they DONT want to mess it up now :)
