DigiChilli January Status and feedback

In my view, this is very early days...in fact - I sincerely hope they survive. This country is in dire need of broadband/ uncapped competition ;)

While I do agree with you that its still "early days" and yes we do need true uncapped in South Africa, I somehow do not see DC being the ones bringing us closer to that. Empty promises one after the other, I was actually assured by Makhulu Chilli that he is very positive that things will be sorted out within 2 weeks... that was over 2 months ago :) I have not seen them post here in a very long time btw... I wonder where they are?

They've made empty promises and have only damaged their reputation in my books.
Its flippen sad because I had such high hopes and I was so excited that I actually backed them up at some stage, but after seeing the truth with my own eyes, I cannot say I feel the same way about them anymore.

To DigiChilli: Don't make promises you cannot keep!

I wonder how many more months DC is going to survive? anyone wanna offer some predictions as to when DC will shutdwon? I reckon within 2 months they are history :)

Thats an odd statement. As bad as it been in terms of stability, the introduction of cheap uncapped has opened up alot for me. Unless something dramatically changes, i definitely won't be going back to the old local only packages.

Since saol and cybersmart have essentially closed their doors, where will all the aspiring uncapped customers go?

The answer is simple, digichilli or screamer.

I would just like the final speed spread to be known, so users out there can decide for themselves if it would suit their needs.

Sheesh they changed it to up to 256 just like that hey?

I was actually thinking of signing up from 1 feb, I think I rather go elsewhere.

They seem to be a bunch of amateurs, especially as far as customer service goes.

Incorrect to assume that everyone will got to Digichilli or Screamer. Dont forget that there are other ISP's working on new packages. Web Africa, Afrihost, Openweb to name a few. One of them if not all 3, will
eventually start providing us with uncapped at a reasonable price, its just a matter of time. We already know that Web Africa are going to announce their new packages in feb and go live in march. If they can launch a product similar to Axxess Express accounts at R499.00, I will be the first one to sign up!

necr0mancer , whilst I agree with you on many of your points I must point out the following. My experience with DC has been the same as yours, but when I weighed up the overall, I recon it's not too bad. Many here have done more than 60GB in a month since DC's launch, which if it was at R30 per/gig would have cost them R1800

Yes, the service is up and down, but some of us are fortunate to have a Saix/Afrihost/Axxess account stacked in the locker, and for me that helps, especially on days like these. Putting all your eggs in one basket right now simply does not make sense.

So, as far as I'm concerned, I'll support them for as long as I can...why? cause they've been brave to venture where very few are willing to.

:) nice one, i agree :)

It doesn't have to be named "uncapped". Problem with uncapped is they hit your connection speed. I rather have a massive cap and get my full line speed.

Give me 50GB for R400-R500 a month and i will consider that "uncapped" . Odds are if you download 24/7 "balls to the walls" on a 384 line , taking into consideration that you will never get max speed all the time [either ISP slowdowns or the sever you're downloading from slowdowns] and might not download every day, then 50GB-70GB in a month is most likely the max you will get anyway.

So looking at Afrihost's R14.50 p/GB offering, for R500 a month we're looking at 35GB and that is on any speed [384/4mbits etc etc]

Worth considering. If the p/GB price drops lower than your line can practically receive , then you are effectively getting uncapped. The real clincher is, instead of paying a full price per month, you can now "top up" and pay only for what you use....so i'm not that phased about "uncapped" offerings. Drop the p/GB price low enough and it will be better for us all tbh.

I guess your more willing then I am :). I dont waste my money on ISP's that make empty promises and dont deliver what they promise. Not to mention, change their promises whenever they feel like it.
The fact that they are one of the first providers to bring out cheap uncapped doesnt make them brave. In fact, I think it makes them stupid as they didnt do enough homework and did not assess the situation properly.

Hence I did not pay for the account. I got my trial account, tested it, worked lovely for a while, and then started going down down down... I took the time to assess the situation, and came to the conclusion that they are not going to get it right anytime soon. That was 2 months ago. Look at where they are now.

@ everyone looking at how many gigs you have downloaded. Well it is awsome to get the content at the end of the day, how fraustrated have you been while waiting for it to arive? How often have you had to change your ISP so you can check your mail, brows the web, view youtube video's etc etc etc.

Well I completely agree you get your "money's worth", is it worth the pain and suffering? I have pulled 50Gigs this month so far, but i havent enjoyed the exprence.

Dog food is cheap, and you get it in 10KG bags, what a bargen. Personaly, I would rather eat someting that I will enjoy...

Last thing to remember, there are other ISP's offering the same/similar deals, with better results.

Then Standard Bank as a multi million Rand company also got it wrong when they went with their "Simpler, better, faster" campaign. When customers started complaining of long queues and slow banking systems, they changed it to "Inspired, motivated, involved" - Do you know how many people (Even their own customers) didn't even notice that? Moral of the story...you don't always get it right. And when you don't...you need to adapt...FAST

As I said, this is my opinion, you are entitled to yours ;)

+1

I'll stick around a little longer and see what happens... I've done quite a lot since I joined DC, close to a 100GB... and at the price I paid, it think its ok... If there are a lot of down time I do have an back up Afrihost and Axxess account. Have to say the past couple of days my Torrents have been great! well over the "up to 256kbps"... Even at 2pm it was still going strong...

Nicely said Rudling

Somehow I tend to agree with you for a change! lol

I haven't even hit 10 gigs yet this month since my downloads won't achieve more than 6 Kb/s. My line is currently the speed a of a dialup connection.

As for this new bull **** "Up to 256kbps" Well thats fraud/theft. People have paid for 256kbps minimum with bursts. Digichilli you guys are going to have big issues with people on this one.

Me, i'd like a refund for Jan and i'd like to know when you stupid service actually works

1) Accounts
From today onwards, payments for packages are valid for a calendar month i.e. payment for a package today will expire on the same day -1 next month and not at the end of the current calendar month anymore.

2) Speed issues.
We are aware of the speed issues. We have identified problems and are dealing with them. It is related to the way we currently allocate bandwidth are we are adjusting this.

Well thats a positive.

edit// But yeah, you should say something about the "up to" change.
