I've allready decided to give DC the boot at the end of the month ... The fact that I get a max speed of 20kb/s means that I'm on a 160k connection (20kb/s x 8 = 160)*. I'd rather pay a bit more and get the full 384k again this is just to slow for my taste.

*I saw on one post by Cambodiadave that, that is how you calculate your line speed I just cannot find that post in the forum to qoute it.

Yup, 1 byte = 8 bits

Realistically since you have to account for overheads your formula should be (Speed in kilobytes per second) * 8/0.83 so 20 kB/s * 8 / 0.83 = 192kbps.

I really cannot understand this 17% overhead stuff that's been flying around mybb lately. Every tcp/ip article I find states the maximum overhead at about 7.3% (which is even including 802.1q). I'm not saying you're "wrong" but I'd like to know if you could provide me with something that mirrors this "17%" in an actual article/factsheet so I can understand it myself.

Anyone notice that speeds have just increased? With some bursting too :)

speed on Rapid now? How long have you been getting good speeds, cause it seems that its only good for like 10 or so min, then down the crapper again.

So far I'm still averaging 25kB/s on single threaded downloads and on multi threaded downloads I can get +-30kB/s (I saw 37 for a split second) I've had this for just over an hour but yes it doesn't often last too long. Rapidshare free user is still sub 2kB/s :(

If DC is trying to increase speeds then they're starting to get it right finally but I'll wait and see first :p

Not here...:(

Try this and see if it helps:

1) start menu > run > cmd & press enter > type ipconfig /release (just take note of your ip address) > when windows ask's if you want to repair the connection don't just restart your pc and switch off your modem.

2) Leave your modem on while rebooting and once it's loaded up, switch on your modem. Windows will still want to repair your connection (if I remember right) once it has repaired it connect to DC and repeat step 1 but just type ipconfig and see what your ip address is.

Sometimes I change ip address and I notice that one is usaully faster than the other and then at other times they're both worthless :D

I'm also getting speeds between 20 - 25 kb/s where previously it didn't really go anywhere above 20kb/s.Browsing isn't as slow as it has been the couple days even when downloading

I try that every couple of hours, no luck, I get a 3 different IP's, all slow.

Speeds have definately slowed down since last night, getting a max of 19kB/s. It was fun while the speeds lasted

Do you guys think DC is really still working on resolving these speed issues? Why are we not getting any feedback from them? I want to pull all my hair out!!!

So they say at least.

After being a smidgen fed up I emailed general support yesterday and 30 minutes later received a call apologising for the way things are but telling me that around 20kBs is "expected" at the moment. I was also told they have some Quality of Service issues to sort out and once those are done (apparently in "a week or two") we should reach our aimed 32kBs. (The guy also made a point of the site saying UP TO but was at least nice enough to say he knew I should be hitting 32kBs)

Having worked in an isp myself I really can't understand what sort of issue would take 1-2 weeks to resolve (I mean I've moved whole companies to new network infrastructure in less than half that time).....and so I worry that they don't actually know "what" exactly is wrong.

I'm still hopeful they'll turn around though....perhaps foolishly so.

Maybe they are appointing new staff who can do the job. I have not been able to browse the internet for three weeks now and they are still trying to fix the problem.
