SA and the rest of the SADC region are actually ahead of the game in freeing up the 790 - 862 MHz band & reclassifying it for the provision of mobile broadband services
this is very prime real estate for broadband providers and potentially hugely significant
there is already an in principle agreement that the broadcasters will vacate this space as soon as it is no longer required for the dual illumination period - in other places the broadcasters are fighting tooth and nail to keep it

This is news to me... What is your source for this? Would really like some more info.

Is anyone aware of any sort of campaign to encourage the transition? The TV stations aren't doing it, ICASA isn't doing it and TV manufacturers aren't doing it.
A few months ago I shopped for a new TV. None I could find had a digital tuner, let alone any dealer having the faintest idea about terrestrial digital.
Terrestrial TV stations in other countries have heavily marketed their digital channels. Especially for HD TV, which is now typically considered a standard format, not an exotic luxury that needs a R3000 box (on DSTV) to decode.
As for ICASA's originall DTV deadline plans, surely they were kidding themselves.

That's what my TV must be picking up then. No SABC tho.
There aren't any!
Only what must be the Mnet DvB trials - and you don't get a picture on a standard tv so it must be encrypted, Channel names show up and that's all.

I'm looking for a set top box to test, is SABC or eTV testing?
