Discovery Vitality [2018]

Hi, I’m new to vitality and am interested in taking up the reduced gym activation fee special offer. It’s R700 instead of the usual R1995.
My question is that it seems you have to achieve 36 visits in a rolling year before you get 75% of membership fees back. So in the first months is it not possible to get the fees back until you hit 36 if you are a new member starting with 0? Thanks .

The 36 visits a year is to keep your reduced gym membership benefit active, so if you don't go at least 36 times by the end of your 365 day cycle, you will lose it the following year (and need to reactive it by paying the activation fee).

The 25% membership you pay each month can be reduced to up to 100% if you reach your Active Rewards goals each week (aka Gym Booster benefit), but they say you are only eligible for this if you reached 36 visits the first year. Not sure if you can only activate the benefit then or they will only start refunding you after then. Typical Discovery confusion...

The joining fee will pay for itself eventually, if you use the gym booster benefit, and get 100% back every month. So yeah, it sucks that it's so high, but if you use the gym a lot, it makes sense to take the plunge

Thanks, yes it is very confusing trying to figure it all out.

I updated the discovery app and it shows devise booster is available activation fee of R350, I see tomtom isn't on the list yet I'm Using one as discovery has approved it?

Hi. I've just joined vitality this month. Can you please give me tips on where to go from here. I've just done my vitality age online

If you already have a TomTom, device booster won't help you, unless you want another one. Device booster will give you cashback on a device you buy at sportsmans/totalsports based on the goals you acheive

Do the Vitality Health Check at clicks, activate healthyfood and choose a preferred partner (woolies/pnp), stipulate your cashback account (bank account). Get the discovery app and activate active rewards. Activate shoebooster if you want it, etc. It's all on their website

Yeah I want another one. I done get why it's not allowed on device booster but it's allowed on active rewards

Some time ago I heard that TomTom was pulling out of the fitness device market. Perhaps that is why Discovery don't have it on their list as an option. You obviously can still buy TomTom devices in shops but I don't think they will launch any new models etc and probably only for sale while stocks last? Just my 2c.

Pretty sure it will be allowed. As long as it's got the Vitality sticker on it. But maybe just ask them on twitter or something before you do it

TomTom isn't available on the list for device booster

Hm, ok. Well have a look at the Garmin's. My SO has a Forerunner 30 (goes for about R2600) - works very well. I have the Vivoactive 3 which is also pretty awesome and fairly cheap (R5500)

Looks like Discovery is busy with site maintenance again. Unable to redeem any rewards.

What's the lowest one's goal can go to if you continuously don't make goal? Mine seems to be stuck on 350, with this last drop being about 4 weeks ago. I've (purposefully) not made goal since November 2017.

Mine dropped to 300, also didn't do anything for months. I remember mine started off at 300. GF's lowest was 400 we stopped for the same amount of time.

Mind if I ask what the benefit of not meeting one's goal is?

Also, does anyone know what's the highest that they'll set a weekly goal? I started in Jan and it's now 700. Starting to get a bit rough (don't belong to gym yet). If I get sick or have to travel I'll probably miss the goal.
