Discovery Vitality 2020

Wow, lot of reading material there :)

I see conflicting info though, anybody know what the deal is?

Discoverer brochure: "Save up to 50% on a Huawei Band 3 Pro at Sportsmans Warehouse."
Vitality Sales brochure: "Up to 100%" (under the picture on p13)

So yeah, I'm confused: am I saving 50% or 100%? Or is it like a 50% discount upfront and then I don't need to make the repayments if I achieve my four active goals for the month?

Bottom line is I want to get a new tracker (I've got a TomTom that Vitality discontinued lol), but I've got no idea what to actually expect to pay. Has anybody purchased a Huawei Band 3 Pro on Vitality through Sportsmans?

Different vitality products, 100% back on normal Vitality booster (1 x member at R280/month), 50% back on VITALITY ACTIVE health product (1 x member at R89/month)

*facepalm* Omg that is confusing. Even looking at it again now. Did they seriously create a cheaper Vitality tier called "Vitality Active", when they ALSO still offer rewards to their full-fat Vitality members called "Vitality Active Rewards"?

So doesn't that mean that Vitality Active members receive Vitality Active Active Rewards?

Madness down this path lies.

UPDATE TO THE VITALITY ACTIVE REWARDS GYM BOOSTER
From 1 October 2019, new gym booster activations will require Vitality members to have a qualifying Discovery Bank account. Vitality members that have previously activated the gym booster benefit will continue to get up to 100% off their gym membership, with the boosted portion paid in Discovery Miles early next year.

So if I am understanding this correctly, my gym booster will be paid in mile next year? What if I do not have a disco bank account?
Where did you see this?
So if you boost before the 1st October, from the 1st onwards you'll be getting the miles from next year? And next year when?1st Jan?
So that pretty much sums up that their new miles program will be from next year?
And what qualifying bank? It better not be the full suite and I guess you have to spend a crap load in your cc?
I just have the normal cc and their free savings account. I am more and more NOT keen on getting their transactional and suite account. I'll keep the credit card and maybe look at ebucks

And did I understand correctly that the cash back eg from healthy care and food will go from cash (which I currently get into my vitality savings acc) to the new discovery miles ? Also says you can convert miles to cash

Just saw disc new advert on TV get up to 75% back on flights and healthy food, what a joke how many new ppl signing up are aware that's just for black card holders you have to be diamond and spend a crap load to get anywhere near that. Unfair what they do makes me a tad cross

Fine print bottom right of the 2nd page of the first pdf.

Yeah, I won't move either, I make a practically guaranteed R1000 on eBucks each month, not moving, too many unknowns. Discovery has too long a history of screwing the rewards members.

So the gold level dropped to 40k points, but to get diamond, you have to get 50k points each year now. At least people not on diamond can get it quicker, but they definitely made sure to stay on diamond you need to reach diamond each year now. The 3 year gold thing completely falls away from what I see.

I am struggling to understand the cash value of the miles.

Currently with points its basically 1:1. 25=coffee 40=smoothie 100=R100 voucher.

Now its like 1:4, and its way better so save for the bigger voucher (350 points +- R87)

Is Vitality even worth it ? I don't know anymore. Especially with the pressure to join their banking now too. I feel like they are forcing us to join and get their credit cards & banking to get good rewards. Plus tbh their flight and accommodation "discount" does not feel discount to me either. In two minds.

They're definitely going to price themselves out of the normal cost bracket for single product users, I'm only with them on Health - won't touch their other products - and I'm only with them because my wife insists on staying for the gym membership.

Considering the ever increasing cost you have to pay to VA as well - it'll soon be almost the same going directly to VA again. (I actually look forward to this day - so I can finally leave Discovery)

I'm.concerned seeing that VA discounts are going to be 50% from next year, I'm currently getting 75%

What is rather ridiculous is the Classic/Collection memberships at VA
It's still 75% with the full vitalty package. 50% with new cheaper active rewards package.
If you signup sans Vitality, its R1500 p/m on a 2 year contract. If you activate vitality, its 50% discount (this is the absolute max, no amount of goals or gym visits increase it, it is capped at 50%) on a 1 year contract which is R2350 p/m @50% = R1175 p/m. Factor into that the expense of Vitality and, yes you are saving, but if you had to pay the vitality activation fee (R799?) and didn't catch it on a free promotion, all of a sudden, the saving is quite irrelevant at the end of the day.

Best make the most of those smoothies whilst on it then I guess

7.5k is if it's the first time EVER you do the HIV test, the rest who have done one previously only get 1k (down from the 5k this year). So unless you have never tested it's a lot less points now (see the example of how they get to Diamond)

Figured they meant 1st time per year.. anyway. I also noticed they now cater for two Discovery Health checks per year (pretty sure they dropped this to one free one a few years back).

Wow didn't notice this.. crazy.

Vitality Drive Diamond Status will be damn near impossible to reach. The maximum points you can get per month is 1650 and to get diamond status you have to maintain an average of 1600+ points. Pretty much no room for error. You will also have to pay for the Advanced Eye Gym course and a Discovery Insure Driving Course.
