Discovery Vitality 2021

As long as you have their card and I think it’s 15k available you just pay the R10, and obv the 9k on your card which gets paid back.

You need a limit of 15k. Only need 5k available. And the cost of the watch (“the 9k”) doesn’t get charged against your card and paid back to you. You get a voucher to use at iStore and pay monthly penalties if you don’t achieve your goals.

I don't have a Phd is Discoveryspeak, so can some kind sould give a rough idea of the exercise requirements you have to meet to get a watch/phone monthly payment covered?

I don't gym but I walk a lot and wouldn't mind jogging or something similar if it would help.

If you get three tough walks in a week you should be able to make it - depending on your heartrate.

I just jogged 3 times a week and I had the maximum goal. When it all started I could just log my long run and get all the points in one shot, but they stopped that.

But I just ended my Vitality benefit as I don't like the rule changes all the time. And some of the things that they target is not that healthy in my opinion.

Currently the max goal is 600pts/week, it used to be 900pts before lockdown.

Attached doc shows how to earn points...

Thanks to you ****ers and all this talk of Discovery and vitality - I just signed up this morning with Active Rewards. Wife and I already have the Watch and iPhones - but there are other benefits I see. We on a three month trial. Will try make sense of it during that period.

Hi Peeps,

Seeing as the conversation has diverged a bit. I'm looking to get off my ass, and looking for motivation. Can one get the apple watch and iphone benefit at the same time on discovery?

I dont have an iDevice currently, but Apple pay on Discovery sounds lovely as I bank with capitec currently and none of the other banks.

You can have both benefits simultaneously, yes. I have both. But the iPhone benefit works a bit differently - they reserve the full purchase amount against your credit facility then refund you on a monthly basis. Never had any issues... But you need car insurance and vitality drive with them to get the full amount back.

Put the watch on your dog and let it do your exercises and goals for you.

Thanks for this. The last quote for car insurance from them was 20% more expensive that what I was currently paying. I guess a partial refund is better than nothing...

Just dont be one of those people who only see the miles and benefits/discounts as the ultimate reward. The ultimate reward is being more active and healthier (mentally and physically), making better food choices when shopping, etc. I've been diamond for +- 8 years and maintaining diamond has made me a healthier person.

And Discovery wants this because it means as you get healthier, there's much less chance of you landing up in hospital with heart issues, diabetes, cancer, depression, etc which means its bills they dont have to pay out for your medical aid. The money they give you back (rewards/discounts) is small in comparison compared to when they have to cover you for in hospital incidents or conditions.

Win-win if you ask me.

I hear you; the goal for trying out this vitality stuff is to ultimately get healthier. I see I can get 75% back on gym fees if I join a Virgin club. That's something to consider I think...

I'd say that is fairly reasonable. Well for me at least. I run 5/6 times a week at an average pace of about 10kph. 3/4 days are run easy for about 45/60 mins while 2 days are reserved for speed work.

Every week you hit your target, they move the goal post. Soon you’ll have to run for 30 minutes every day of the week

But that is how fitness works. You reach a stage of diminishing returns which means you have to work harder. Either more distance or more speed...

Take me for example. At first an hour run at about 6:15 mins/km would burn 600/625 calories, now it's only 400/420 calories.

Slightly back on topic - my 2500 Discovery miles has been rewarded. I used Apple Pay with the Discovery card over the weekend.
My wife received hers as well, will be using it more, and even more when we both have apple watches.

The next question.

Can two people make use of the vitality benefit at the same time? IE me and my wife get apple watches? Thanks vitality mybb community support!

My wife and I have signed up to Vitality Active rewards this morning. Waiting for it to be activated now. How does the app track workouts through your Apple Watch? I assume it gets access to the Fitness App to get information from there?

They increase it by 50 every week IF you over achieve to a maximum of 600 (not 900 due to lockdown). Mines been at 900 for the past 3 years until lockdown happened it then moved to 600. Been at that for the past 12 months. Wouldn’t call that “moving the posts” or an inconvenience what so ever.

Your statement of running “30 mins every day of the week” is not accurate at all. You can do 1 or 2 runs and fill the rest of the week with 10 000 steps. Or just 2 runs if your goal is 600.

Steps stopped counting as of 2021.

Each year they just change the rules.
