I dont Have time for adsl.
At telkom the fastest I downloaded was 4meg.
thou Ive seen 6meg download speeds with my colleagues.

gotto love the telkomnetwork.
But youhave time to waste here?

I second that clipse, all my other forums are gettign neglected since I discovered this one.
Local is lekke.

local is lekke ...at international rates. From 1 NOV we will use sms on adsl to save on bandwidth LOL

Oh yes!!!
GangStarr, would you mind explaining that one to us please, as it is no secret anymore that Telkom does that!!!!

...thankfully I don't have a TelkomISP account...

being a n00b at one stage a while back, I tried to apply for one through Telkom and sent the application 6 times over 3 months - never heard a peep - don't even know why I sent it so many times!

I think I need to see my doctor about it!!! :D

Telkom employee rates for adsl line rental:

HomeDsl 192 = R216/m (20% less than public)
HomeDsl 384 = R287/m (25% less than public)
HomeDsl 512 = R320/m (30% less than public)
HomeDsl 1024 = R442/m (35% less than public)

yeah telkom employees use telkomisp accounts - your ones - when you're not watching because they can see all your passwords - its common knowledge ;)

...does this mean that I have to change my password again, using UPPER, lower, $pe(ia| and numb3r characters, be at least 350 characters long and must not be a word!!! :D

so many passwords to remember....

Some info on what I have seen/experienced.
- As a contractor/consultant you are not able to put your laptop on their network, have to use their 386 desktops.
- You do not have internet access
- Their personal are monitored strictly on their internet uasage (2-3 hours a month or there abouts). They treat them like children.
- If they have to dial up from home to support systems they normally get an ISDN line with a second desktop at home (what a waste of money)

That explains why my 1024kbps line is so-o-o slo-o-ow. The shaping algorithm runs on a 386

Shame so even they get shafted, its cheaper but it aint cheap.

well look at it this way.
telkom pays our line rental and we get a rebait on our telephone bill.
so the obvious thing would be to get ISDN.
1. its cheaper. (registarr for R7 a call)
2. its uncaped
3. not as fast but does what it should.(unshaped as well)

and yea use ISDN, register for R7 callmore, get disconnect 30 times a day, and get nailed R7 for each connection - I THINK NOT

would still work out cheaper to be on ADSL.......

SORRY I WAS NOT CLEAR.

install norton atn select force never drop connection.

What a load of bollocks! Not only do we have a Telkrap apologist on board desperately defending an inexcusable situation, but also recommending a 3rd party Windows product to ostensibly fix technically inferior infrastructure! So sad...

Knowing a number of people who work for Telkom - yes - they do get an average of about 20% of the ADSL line rental portion as a benefit - but have to pay the full ISP fee and have to use Telkomsa.net as ISP in order to qualify for the line rental discount.

you know that sucks. when I applied for our line, they told me that staff can only get "Staff 512 adsl product" and that 192 and 384 dont qualify for a cheaper price...

So, I have 512 for R280 a month, + we get a discount(rebate), meaning another R200-300 month less on the bill (it differs on the position you have in the company).

As for the account, I never took a telkomsa.net account, still get the staff line, and am happy with a ISadsl account.

I dont know about 1024, as I never enquired about it since it came out.

Also, for some odd reason we got a free installation, no fee...

Then again, its not me who work at telkom, but my dad, I just benefit from it :)

GangStarr, this is not a loaded or baited question, I ask this in all seriousness: Are you not embarresed to work for Telkom? How do feel about working for a company that does what it does?
