Do you hate phone notches?

Do you prefer 19:9 with notch or 16:9 without a notch

The notch discussion is as boring as first world problems. Its like toilet paper over or under.

First notch phone is my P20 Pro, and to be honest I do not even notice it, not a issue at all.

You're all wrong! It wasn't iApple or random iAndroid?

Ryder was first!

I have a P20 Pro with notch disabled but still shows my battery and signal information at the top. Personally think it's pretty cool having the information up there without loosing the screen size. Plus I use the of screen navigation so I have so much screen to enjoy

I think notches are a bit 'silly.' There were definitely other ways to achieve whatever they are trying to achieve. That said, I don't quite care about them, although I'd most likely choose a notch-free phone over a notched one if other specs were otherwise equal

I see loads of people complaining about the new notch OEM's use to reduce bezels and I wonder if the hate is purely because Apple (OK Essential phone had it 1st) did it?

What I don't get is that we actively get more screen space as the notification Icons get moved to previously dead space, yet people complain about it? See for example my current phone Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite:

Hate it, prefer the way Samsung does it, with no notch.

If I were to get a phone with a Notch e.g. a Huawei P20 Pro, the first thing I would do is hide the notch.

I have not seen a single device take full advantage of the "extra real-estate" a notch supposedly brings, the Galaxy Note8 and Note9 still seem to bring the biggest mainstream displays and do not have notches.

I want maximum uninterrupted viewing area when watching videos.

Can't say that something so trivial has ever bothered me.

Much like the obsessions of going border-less/bezel-less I just don't see the fuss.

It's akin to complaining that there is a black section at the top or bottom of the phone where the speaker or camera is hiding.

Notches are like girls.

The thiccer they are they better...

Eg Pixel 3 XL

The notch automatically blanks out for video...
Indeed. The display goes from "5.8inchs" to about 5.5inch. I just don't see the point in displays wit a notch and I cannot wait for this strange fad to be over.

Hopefully OEMs will find a way around it loke Oppo with the Find X.

Mechanical Fix?

Oh hell no, my experience with phones tell me that is the 1st thing to go.

I never said that THAT is the fix but I hope they do find something. E.g. embedding Cameras and Sensors under the display. I believe that is something that is being looked into, however who knows how far into development it is.

The notch is a temporary solution that has already overstayed it's welcome, especially since a lot of OEMs phones still have chins which makes it look more ridiculous.

I have the exact same setup, you don't notice the notch when the top is blacked out but you still benefit from extra screen space
