hard question, I enjoy what i do, lately not so much where I do it though... have been contemplating a change

I'm a business/system analyst at a niche financial institution. Currently I'm being hit with a bunch of regulatory stuff which isn't super stimulating. I enjoy data-centric and very technical issues. I used to do a hell of a lot of SQL work and some scripting in Python and whatnot, but over the last year or so, that's decreased and I miss it.

Self-employed so not really a job per se. I enjoy my work. Has it's ups and downs like most I guess. Worst part is all the traveling. On the plus side I don't have a daily commute like most people and almost never sit in traffic. :p

You travel a lot but no sitting in traffic? So no client meetings at 8am/9am or 3pm/4pm/5pm ?

Guess I could've been a bit more clear, I'm referring to long distance (domestic) travel and being away from home.
Meetings as such aren't much of a thing for me either, or at least not in the formal sense most people mean it.

Really? Although, many sports can be played while it is raining. Except cricket. But I can imagine it does suck with rain and a camera lens.
 
Been with the same employer for over 39 years. Being in a corporate environment allows you to diversify should you become bored with your current work requirements.
 
Love what I do (dev), hate where I do it (domain, dev shop), what I do it on (domain, framework, no new funky stuff except what I do for infrastructure) and the fact that I have zero career as such because I fell into the bespoke thing (domain, framework, SA being SA, working with people who don’t know how software dev as business works).

Living in SA compounds the lack of career because you if you don’t have a plan, it bites sooner than later .. and if later it is really bad.
 
I love my job. The hours are a bit much but the work-life balance has actually gotten better since I no longer have to take work home anymore, compared to my old job.

Don't like it.
Reasons:
  • Zero teamwork from team colleagues and constant attacks by company colleagues
  • Being responsible for 10's to 100's of millions
  • Can be very complicated at times
  • Unpaid standby every third month (Friday 4pm - Monday 7am)

Soul destroying every minute i am there and every minute i am not just thinking about the fact that i will have to go back, so would say that is a no.
