Incidentally: the scientific studies are complete and they show that spanking is not only unnecessary but also harmful.

I tried that after a lecture at my oldest kids school, only worked for a few days before they realized that there is very little consequences to their actions. As long as they know for a fact they will get spanked, it's almost never necessary to spank them. I can go anywhere with my kids and not have problems, SO on the other hand is the "nice" parent, she is also the one the kids tend to ignore when she talks to them.

We have a five year old. Yes, if justified and within reason (won't use a belt or a copper pipe lol)

I see your scientific study and I raise you the snowflake generation.

I'm sure some discipline from a early age would have resulted in young adults with some sort of respect.

So this is precisely what I submitted a scientific study (the actual paper is behind a paywall here: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/cdep.12038/abstract) because people will try to defend their behaviour at any cost since not doing so means accepting that you have and continue to perpetrate violence against your children to not only little effect but in many cases to an actual deficit of discipline (the stated goal of spanking.)

I don't expect to change your mind but you have to be able to see yourself countering a concise review of a set of scientific studies with an article from "Heatstreet" containing a screen grab of some idiots emails. It's pathetic.

Also: if you're a parent and you cannot logically deduce that using violence to get your children to do as you wish will teach them by example to do the same thing to other people and that indeed you are probably doing it because it was done to you, then frankly your children have bigger problems than a bit of spanking, ie: dumb parents.

funny how the spank generation is so much better equipped to deal with life and has respect and whatnot but the current snowflake generation doesn't ......... funny

Any science to back this up, or is it just, like, your opinion man?

Not science.

Might not be science, but that was my exact experience. You can come with as much science mumbo jumbo as you want, but I refuse to let my kids become as dysfunctional as most kids out there. At both my kid's schools I always hear that my kids are some of the most disciplined kids they have in class. My oldest just went to grade R this year, already had an excellent report card, and is used as an example of good discipline, especially in my family, where some of the kids are little terrorists.

Once discipline is instilled, it's there for life. I can barely remember the last time I had to spank any one of my two kids, it's almost never necessary. Buig die boompie terwyl hy nog klein is.

So if I don't swing on curtains and break s*** around the house my kids will not do it either? Have you met children? LOL

Reducto ad absurdum but I'll bite: try it the other way round, if you do those things, is it likely they will?

BTW: two kids, one teen one in preschool, no spanking ever, constant compliments on their manners/behavior.

That's the thing I don't like, I don't let my kids stand in a corner (example). I tried it once with my son, he was distrusting of me for the rest of the day, and that's not the kind of person he is. Sad and angry, that for me feels like emotional abuse, and I feel like a slug afterwards.

I shudder to think how your kids will turn out.

Why then do the majority of people who were in school in the 80's and early 90's (who got a hiding if they did wrong), then have a much better understanding of right and wrong as well as basic manners and behavior than the current crop of school leavers?
None of my friends from school days are scarred emotional wrecks from getting whacked, and as far as I know none are axe murderers either

Because that is the way it's supposed to be. Animals do it as well. And there is a huge difference between discipline and abuse. All these SJW's worried about their little snowflakes is actually sad. Little do they know their kids are probably going to turn out as hippies, gender-confused, or so full of themselves that when the smallest bit of reality hits them, they fall apart.

1+

Ah the days. How did we ever survive I ask you.

This ^ many times over.

Six of the best was something of an achievement, almost an initiation, into being accepted when in boarding school.
The really bad ones were sent to reform schools, and most of them turned out fine.
