If I had kids, I certainly would not, and I find the apparent prevailing belief on this forum that not doing so is going to guarantee a ****ed up kid a bit of a stretch.

I've been spanked, so was my brothers and sister, my parents, their parents. We all turned out ok.

My niece-in-law to be doesn't get spanked. She gets talked too. She's a menace.

So you can post all the scientific studies you want, I've got what I'd consider hard proof that it works.

I physical "bully" isn't half as bad or damaging as an emotional one.

Die wie nie wil hoor nie sal gemoer word...

I got many a good spanking while growing up and so did my sister, we both turned out quite ok. One day when I have children they'll definatly get spanked as and when nececery.

Two of my cousins have children of more or less the same age, each a 7 and 4 year old.
The one cousin doesn't spank his children, they are naughty spoilt brats, they talk back to their parents, they have very little respect for adults, they tantrim if not getting their way etc etc, up to the point where I don't like visiting this cousin because of his naughty, disrespectful, brat children and his inability to disciplen them.

The other cousin spanks his children, they are probably 2 of the best mannered young children I have met in a long time, they know how to behave, they have respect and they listen. Obviously they'll still push their boundries from time to time like any children, but it mostly only takes a firm voice from their father.

Game, set & match..

Listen to the word of your God.

When do you start killing infidels, stoning adulterers and allowing rapists to marry their victims to avoid punishment?

On topic, why do people think that it's ok to hit children, but no one else? I mean surely if you make a mistake at work, it would be better for your boss to hit you, so that you learn your lesson.

Hit anywhere or on buttocks?

Not a chance.

I believe( with good reason )that kids learn how to behave from their parents. We as responsible adults are meant to resolve our behavioural differences without violence. Hitting a kid teaches them that it is appropriate to use violence to correct someone's behaviour that you don't like. And then you have people wondering why we live in a violent society, it is because you have parents teaching their kids that violence is OK.

As a society, we would frown on a man hitting his partner because she is being an unreasonable bitch. I don't see why we shouldn't offer the same protection to the most vulnerable members of our society.

That is before you go into the scientific literature on the impacts that spanking can have on a kid's health.

So you are saying anecdotal evidence is better than a statistical analysis? As for turning out OK, that is a pointless statement. You don't know what you, your brothers and sisters, your parents and their parents would have turned out if they were not hit as kids.

That is what I maintain. Either kids are too young to know that they are doing wrong, or they are old enough to use much more sophisticated methods of persuasion.

Ask my son and the spoon* I used on his arse this morning.

* plastic as I don't have a wooden one for some absurd reason.

Reminds me of the leather strap we had in the house hanging with all the keys, its name was "Moeg gepraat", if my dad said "ek is nou moeg gepraat", then you knew...

That's outrageous - how can you not have a wooden spoon? :wtf:

A smack on the hand to snap them out of it is all that is needed in my experience.

I don't believe in hardcore hidings it just violates trust and is a lazy way of parenting kid's that just sends the message that violence is a appropriate way to deal with your problems.
