Does 8ta block torrents?

I've been trying to torrent a 2GB file. 5000 seeds and I've downloaded a whole 2mb in 1 hour. Speeds have been slow for the last month but I don't normally download torrents so I need to know whether I should just give up now. At this rate it will take a year.

Working fine for me. Try restarting your router or dongle.

Check the speeds during the day. I don't know what the idjits are doing over at 8.ta HQ but from about 18:00 onwards the speed goes to ****. Now, 5AM it is fine again :/

It was working fine a couple of days ago. I tried last night and the speeds were really bad. It seems it's since they had the issue with the data balances not reflecting properly. Can't remember exactly but I think someone said in another thread that 8ta upgraded something on their side?

Managed to get 1.5GB last night. The speed varies considerably throughout the the night. It shoots up to over 400KB/s for a while and then 0KB/s to 10KB/s for the rest of the time.

I have noticed that my download speed almost always shoots up around 2:30am every night for half an hour or so, then goes back down. Seen this on several nights.

strange that they are limiting torrents......

it could benefit the OOB shark greatly if an idjit leaves his torrents running by mistake :p :p

There must have been some serious issue with 8ta on Wednesday. Was going to post a separate thread, but will rather add it here. I have quite bad reception at home. This is not just limited to 8ta, but also to Vodacom and MTN. My data bundle is on 8ta and to make it work properly, I have to use a directional antenna directed at the Randjiesfontein tower in Midrand. On Wednesday, May 1, I had my normal 38-50% signal on my router. Sometime in the afternoon it dropped to 3%. I could initially also not get to the 8ta balance page. An hour later I could get to the page, but was unable to see my data balance. All this was because of problems on 8ta's side. Yesterday my signal on the router was back to normal. No changes on my side.

I would love for 8ta to provide us with a web page with the status of their towers and maybe even their self service portal. This is not the first time I have experienced a "tower failure". The last time this happened I spent 2 hours repositioning my router in the house to get better signal. Eventually gave up and it came right the next day. If I knew the tower was down, I could have left it and waited it out.

In this area we have tower down every couple months. It is due to the thiefs looking for set of fresh batteries. It happens after midnight. Escom cable lied-down under Main Road @Blue Hills ripped off during weekend, the same story. This is our reality.
