Does anyone still use LinkedIn?

really annoying what LinkedIn has become, but it remains a kind of non-negotiable in the job market, you need at least a passingly ok looking profile there or suspicion is raised ... just avoid that "open to work" stink of desperation at all costs!

ironic that it's the only one of the big social media platforms I have a real account on (as opposed to my X account exclusively dedicated to shitposting ) and it has become a complete cesspool devoid of value, a waste of space, time and energy

at least you'll never see me play the "look at me" game with vomit inducing posts or cheerleading

You need a passably okay-looking profile ONLY if your employer is also into the scam that is LinkedIn!

And if you decide to have one, you have to keep it updated with those nonsense posts.

that's basically ALL employers in the IT game, hence the requirement

not in my experience, I don't have nonsense posts, hell I barely have any posts, but my profile is entirely up to date with my work experience etc ... and my current job came about through a company HR person searching on LinkedIn and reaching out

if I had no profile at all I would not have this job right now, nonsense posts were not needed though

You are aware that you are the exception, right?

Agreed. No nonsense posts for dem either, but I keep it up to date. As a hiring manager, I will always look at the person’s LinkedIn profile. Some times there’s more info there, and sometimes you have connections in common. Super useful:

The "open to work" concept/theory is highly debated. There are pros & cons attached.

Agreed. Recruiters are generally quite positive about it, as they know the person is likely to respond to outreach.

The negative is that scammers swoop in anticipating desperation and they have to be batted away.
