Domaincheap, WebAfrica move, and "hosting"

Hi Bond,

Did Web Africa inform you via email that there would be a pricing adjustment for your domain holding?

I had a free account...

This was in the WA email:

Are there any price changes?

No, except Webafrica is a VAT-registered company which means we need to include VAT in your next invoice. This means 14% will be added to your next invoice, which you can obviously claim back if you too are VAT registered.

Well it doesn't seem like it.

Here's the email received on 1 November 2015:

Hi xxxxxxxxx,

Welcome to Webafrica! We’re super happy to have you on board with South Africa’s Largest Independent Internet Service Provider.

As you know, Webafrica has acquired Domain Cheap and we’re looking forward to providing you with the superior support we’re known for.

You’ve probably got some questions, so we’ve answered ones we think will be the most pressing.

Do I need to do anything?

Not at all. We will give you plenty of warning if we require you do to anything in the future.

Are there any price changes?

No, except Webafrica is a VAT-registered company which means we need to include VAT in your next invoice. This means 14% will be added to your next invoice, which you can obviously claim back if you too are VAT registered.

Will there be any interruptions to my service?

Absolutely not, there are no planned service interruptions.

What about support?

All support channels remain active, as they were with Domain Cheap, but you will benefit from Webafrica’s much bigger support infrastructure with 60 customer care representatives to help you. For the moment we are discontinuing live chat whilst we incorporate it into our existing infrastructure. You can continue to email [email protected] and have your queries answered.

We’re happy to welcome you to the Webafrica family.

Regards,

The Webafrica Team

Hi Bond,

Did Web Africa inform you via email that there would be a pricing adjustment for your domain holding?

I think so,, but can't see that email now.

This is the first email:
Hi there,

By now, you should be aware that Domain Cheap has joined forces with Webafrica - the largest independent ISP in the country.

We're very excited to have you on board, and don’t worry, we'll treat you with kid gloves as we do with all of our customers.

Let's start by giving you an overview of what to expect when moving over to us:

Account and Customer Zone Access: Monday, 16 November 2015

If you're new to Webafrica, we'll create an account for you and email your your Customer Zone login details. Your Webafrica Customer Zone has the same features as your existing Domain Cheap Client Area. For those who are already our customers, you'll just need to log into your Customer Zone as you usually do. If you can't remember your password, no worries, just click on the 'Password Reset' link, insert your email address and we'll send you the instructions to get your password changed.

Please note - although we're sending your login details on the 16th, you'll only be able to manage your services within the Webafrica Customer Zone after the migration has been completed. If you need to manage any of your services in the meantime, you may do so via your Domain Cheap Customer Area.

Start of Migration from Domain Cheap: Monday, 23 November 2015

We'll be starting the migration of your services from Domain Cheap to our state-of-the-art data centre on the evening of 23 November 2015. Once your services have been moved you’ll receive a product ‘Welcome’ email explaining how to access your Hosting Control Panel. It is at this stage that you will be able to manage your services via the Webafrica Customer Zone.

We will communicate further with you early next week.

Once again, welcome to Webafrica. We look forward to being your ‘Everything Web’ partner for many years to come.

Have a great weekend!

The Webafrica Team

This is just piss poor from Web Africa from start to finish in my opinion..

Based on what has been explained and posted then you should have no issue requesting a credit on that invoice as they have not provided you with notice.

From here on you can decide to move your domains over to another registrar or to remain with them.

Shout if you need help with the transferring of your domain names to another registrar - even if it is not ourselves or if you run into any other possible glitches.

So glad I'll be able to cancel ghe whole account soon enough with Web Africa.

I have the same problem, I had x2 domains with DomainCheap. I go the welcoming message which stated that nothing was going to change and then just about a week to the end of the month another mail informing me the free hosting is falling away. In a scurry of activity I managed to get x1 one domain away from WebAfrica, the other still seem to be stuck. When I spoke to Webafrica this morning they informed me that I still need to pay. I asked them for what, I got a mail stating that nothing is changing and a week before month end a different story. I was told to hold on, and when the support tech came back I was told there would be no charge. At this point I am still monitoring my stuck domain. Seems I'll have to turn the call centre upside down again to get this resolved.

This is very annoying.

I had 3 domains with DomainCheap all with free hosting. I only use one of the hosting packages, although now it seems I have to pay for 3x hosting fees.

They never warned of a price increase, and never asked me if that would be okay.

I will cancel the two, but do I still have to pay them?

I don't think so hey.

I've got payment to bank transfer. And I'm not transferring a cent :D

No, you don't have to cancel, you can switch them to parked, which is free.

How do I do this?

I tried to cancel, and they want me to call them instead of just doing it online!

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in replying, if you want your services terminated, this can be, please PM your details and a call back will be arranged from our retention's team to cancel.

All correspondence was sent to all ex domain cheap customers explaining the process and what is going to happen from now, going forward.
