I had three domains with domaincheap, and it's been a long while since I had to set anything up.

Two domains are hosted with Google Apps, and I set all the DNS records via Domaincheap's cPanel to point to Google's services. I then received an email from WebAfrica, stating there is no more free hosting, and that it would be R39 per month, not really something I'm interested in, so I opened a ticket, asking if I would be charged this, since I don't need hosting, I am using Google Apps. Their reply:
That is correct, if you are using external hosting which in your case you are, you will only be billed the annual domain renewal fee. There will not be any downtime when we update the nameservers as the DNS zone will remain as-is.

Logged in today, and all three domains are showing hosting packages for R39 per month (which I assume is related to the cPanel hosting that Domaincheap provided). I can't see a place to edit the DNS settings under "Manage my domains", but seems a bit ridiculous to pay R39 just to be able to change DNS settings. What am I missing?

Have sent a follow up request, but thought I'd ask here as well.

*edit* Didn't think they'd reply so quickly:
This was part of the standard import earlier today. I will ensure that the billing department makes the change to parked accounts.
So that was painless, nothing to see here.

A few days ago I got a flurry of emails saying "Welcome to web africa".....Wtf? Anyway I carry on with my day...

This morning I see that I have an invoice for R39 for my domain, which I have never actually used. I phoned web africa and cancelled it straight away. I guess now I have to pay the R39 else I will get sued.

Also see that I have this invoice for R39.... fsck that, not being paid...

Oh ffs, now I have to phone them to cancel a service? what stupid ass policy is that.

Wow Web Africa really screwed this up. Plus I already have an account with Web Africa and now another one was created with a different email address.

Will call and cancel shortly.. but if they try charge me for this they can think again.. I'll cancel my whole account with them.

Even worse. My domains that I moved away from Domaincheap just before the merge are now showing as active domains at Web Africa.

Bloody hell.

I opened a ticket and it was fairly painless, all three domains have been moved to "free parking" which comes with a cPanel login to manage DNS settings. I guess it's tricky to identify which customers actually were using domaincheap's free hosting, and which customers had external.

They've been very quick to respond to my requests, so my suggestion is to just open a ticket.

Tbh... its not tricky.. domaincheap would have had the records... Web Africa just ignored them and as such will lost that business.

I have an account with Domaincheap and not WebAfrica, what do I do?

Hi there fastesthamster

Please take a look at url within signature. We provide free cloud based dns servers which are integrated into our reseller domain management control panel.

Your are more than welcome to shout if you need help transferring your domains over.

Web Africa's communication was very poor. Nowhere in the email did it mention anything regarding Domaincheap domains. I'm sure the welcome email was confusing for a lot of people, especially those already with WA accounts.

I've now received an email/invoice of my 6 domains I don't use. R39/ea. Telling me to pay.
