An interesting article from the UK's independant: Don't Israel's nuclear weapons count?

I think the crux of the article is this:

The Israeli human rights activist Gideon Spiro bravely asks that his country be subject to the same rules as Iran and all others in the Middle East: "Rein in Israel, compel it to accept a regime of nuclear disarmament and oblige it to open all nuclear, biological and chemical facilities and missile sites to international inspection." The US has leverage because it maintains and funds Israel. If Obama shies away from this, there can be no moral justification to go for Iran or North Korea or any other rogue state. And the leader whose election and dreams gave hope to millions thereby hastens the end of the world.

Well I think the whole world should get rid of nukes but Israel has threatened no one will total annihilation, unlike Iran.
I would prefer for her to have them as it is clear Iran is fast on the way to getting them and Israel needs a deterrent.

Iran
Main articles: Iran and weapons of mass destruction and Nuclear program of Iran
Iran is a party to the NPT, but was found in non-compliance with its NPT safeguards agreement and the status of its nuclear program remains in dispute. In November 2003 IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei reported that Iran had repeatedly and over an extended period failed to meet its safeguards obligations, including by failing to declare its uranium enrichment program

No, Israel's Nuclear weapons don't count because:

Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Her neighbors are.

And neither is North Korea. They withdrew from it in 2003. So why is the west still going for North Korea, but not Israel? Double standards. They are hypocrites.

In any case, nuclear weapons are nuclear weapons? Whether a country's president has signed a document or not, it doesn't change anything. The west obviously have other agendas in the Middle East.

They've already caused havoc in almost every part of the Middle East. Except for Iran. They're afraid. What cowards.

Yeah helping it's only open democracy. Comparing Israel to N.Korea is laughable :D

I have no problem with Iran having nukes if they're an open, moderate democracy like for example Israel.

In any case, I'm not saying that Iran, or N. Korea, or or any other country should be allowed to have nukes and other WMD. Nukes and WMD are bad.

But this applying of double standards by the West is so hippocritical. Israel should be subject to the same treatment as the rest of the world.

Toxic you ever been to Israel? You do know you have freedom there, freedom of speech etc.
I have never felt more safe before than when I was there, on numerous occasions I might add.

Maybe because given the opportunity South Korea will be nothing but dust?

Sometimes politcal correctness needs to take a backseat to precaution, same applies to Iran

I am not questioning freedom, democracy, and freedom of speech in Israel.

I really don't believe that Israel is open and moderate, especially about its WMD, nuclear arms, biological weapons, etc.

In any case, thanks for the opinions and comments. I don't want to start a heated debate (hope I'm not too late).

Just thought that it was an interesting article, with a different viewpoint. Also, it's published by the UK's Independent - a western news outlet.

hmmm, well, maybe this is a case of M.A.D (mutually assured destruction). Israel knows Iran has nukes, so Israel has nukes pointing at Iran, so now Iran knows it has nukes pointing at it, and if Iran decides to attack Israel, or even the USA, Israel can do America's dirty work.

A nuke is a nuke, just get everyone to get rid of the nukes by giving them to me :D

BS, Iran never threatened anyone. They havent killed inoccent people and almost destroyed Palestine. Israel should not be trusted with Nuclear weapons!!!

I was in Israel, you had your blinkers on because it's not that free.

I was pulled over by the secret police for walking with a black t-shirt over my head, they thought I was an arab for doing this and would have taken me for interrogation if I had not had my passport on me(seriously), also Israel has no constitution, the US should be ashamed for going against the founding fathers principles, Israel just makes and breaks laws, it has no moral compass that a modern democracy should have like a constitution.(even SA has one FFS)

You speak of freedom of speech? lol look at Goldstone he is being shut out for speaking freely and not welcome in Israel.

Palestinians in Israel are second class citizens I witnessed this myself by going to soek markets, they are poor and can't live in most parts of the city for being non Jewish, and I witnessed all this before I was even aware of the political situation.

Wonder why
How did you know they were secret police? :D

Are you totally insane? Are you seriously comparing Israel to the surrounding Arab countries? You have lost it.
