so moved into my flat almost 2 years ago and when I moved in, I was told that there was fibre available to all units, so we have a fibre box installed and everything through Vumatel. However, I'm assuming the previous tenants had fibre based on the fact that when I tried to order fibre though Afrihost, I was told that there is already an 'in-flight service activation' pending which prevents me from ordering another fibre package. However, I've contacted Afrihost and Vumatel multiple times for assistance, as there's no way of me knowing who the ISP was for the previous tenants, which means I can't cancel the previous service activation and order a new one through a different ISP. It's extremely frustrating because I've been forced to get 5g with Rain and it's just not good enough for what I need (streaming, working from home, gaming etc). Vumatel and Afrihost have both come back to me and said there's nothing they can do to help, so I don't know where to go from here. Someone please save me from the shackles that are 5g, I'm really reaching the end of my rope. Thank you!

This is a problem unfortunately. When I bought this new house i tried to sign up with an ISP and they said i can't cause the Vumatel CPE was already connected to another ISP. I had to send through the proof of deeds registration in my name, and the new ISP was able to (after a delay) get Vumatel to release the CPE.

Its a stupid system. They should just let you the consumer enter your CPE's serial no on the ISP website and you can connect to any ISP you want, when you want.

hi there! Thank you so much for the response! Can you please explain what you did in a bit more detail? Seems like you had a very similar experience

my new ISP (CIdeas), asked for proof that the property was sold to me and they said with that, they could tell Vuma to forcibly release the fibre.

If you're renting, have you tried asking your ISP if they can use a lease agreement to prose the previous tenant is gone and the CPE should be moved to your ISP now.

haven't tried this but I definitely will give it a shot. Thank you!

Had a friend move into an apartment and similar issue, she submitted proof to her ISP (her lease) and Frogfoot force released the line and the ISP took over

There is something called an "unverified address order" that can be used to get a second fibre line installed on the premises ... but perhaps this option is not available on the Vumatel network?

sister! And thank you!

@Afrigirl Help a sister out?

Hello.

Please note that you need to submit your proof of address, we will then escalate with Vumatel. You are welcome to drop me a PM with your AH reference or email address.

Use paragraphs next time, please.

Ignore that jazz and get a new fibre line. Name your unit something like 6B or whatever. Make it up. Will be a "new" installation of course.

Vumatel would still need proof of address and we would have to apply for a premise creation for the second line to be approved.

Fibre really sucks when it comes to getting it installed and all the red tape. It's pathetic.

The world goes one step forward, and two steps back.

It is often not so simple, especially with MDUs and reticulated installs.

We had a meeting on Tuesday with the Vumatel execs around exactly this premise occupied situation.

Realistically, the calendar notice required from the FNO in question creates a lot of this situation as people often forget or don't plan around the move. Then the line sits in limbo.

Firstly welcome, how rude of us not to welcome you :) . With a tag name like that, it shows you are not here to stay, i hope you get assistance though, I know how frustrating that is
