Still interested on how 'worth it' the Sony Xperia S is to upgrade to - should MTN finally start selling it - and on that note - when the <expletive> are MTN going to give info on it? That said - Sony is expected to launch the Xperia T this month - how long will that then take to get to MTN since that's meant to be the new flagship.... *shrug*

I decided I'l buy the phone cash and just go to Cell C. Much better value.

My M****tyN contract expires in Jan, so hopefully someone has the new Xperia T by then.

Played around with the HTC One X yesterday! A MINT PHONE!!! Still have my eye on it!

As an iPad owner I've long since invested the 30 seconds necessary to move to the Kenyan store and have accumulated an extensive set of app so, when I finally move away from BB, the iPhone is an obvious choice.

I wish someone would tell Samsung ZA that... still waiting for ICS update for my Galaxy Tab 10.1. And before you ask, yes I've rooted it, etc - the ROMs out there are poo. The very fact I have to resort to rooting to upgrade is the reason I've gone off Android. Won't be getting back into that OS until they do something about the woeful state of upgrades.

ICS for 10.1 is out, even locally. Also, you don't need root to update the 10.1... And even so, you still get all the functionality even in HC...

Try this link. Select the SIII on the Straight Up 100, and just upsize the data dependant on your needs. Still quite affordable I think.

Cell C contracts month to month and HTC One X are currently the best way forward,but the article is spot on AT THIS POINT IN TIME I would rather wait a month or two longer before being tied down to a device for two years since lots of fresh stuff being released before december and then next year theres going to be a bit of a drought for a few months.

Or you could always take out one of Cell C's mambo chicks and get a new phone every year.

Htc one x? Though it suffers some quality problems.

I've had two without issues.Best phone out right now IMO,that screen and built quality is simply amazing IMO.

For example, on MTN, the S III is available for R399 per month on AnyTime 200. For that price, you get R200 worth of airtime, 25 SMSes and a 75MB internet bundle per month. Add up the value of airtime/extras you’re getting, and the number is closer to R250-R260. That means you’re paying around R150 per month towards your handset. R3 600 for an S III means one thing: Samsung is happy to massively subsidise this handset to grab market share. That’s a good thing for consumers, because you’d be hard-pressed to find better value for a similar device.

Yeah for R250-R260 you get alot more from Cell C...moved over two months ago from MTN,so far so good quite please with Cell C

I got the iPhone 4 when it was launched 2 years ago on MTN top up. I skipped the iPhone 4s and will get my new iPhone 5 when my contract ends in December. I am happy to maintain my 2 year cycle with iPhone because they have major upgrades every two years. I have a Galaxy S3, albeit a great phone, I like the iPhone better. I will be porting to Vodacom as well. I was not impressed with MTN's poor networks.

Nokia is the sensible choice IMO. Good after sales support, sturdy handsets guaranteed and tried and tested. Produced the best smartphone ever according to Siri, wireless charging (Nokia is going to make this mainstream), PureView, WP8 - that just about sums all its advantages. And Oh, it doesn't look anything like Apple's devices through and through.

I love what Nokia has done with the camera on the 920, but that about all. It's 40% heavier, very clunky (thick and non-rounded corners - why??) - Nokia seem to want to regress into the eighties . Was hoping for a good phone since I want that camera, but the 920 as apackage just does not do it for me.

No it's not - I've tried the "check for update" from the tablet, multiple times from KIES ... nada. Tried again this weekend. Nada.

And even so, you still get all the functionality even in HC...

No, ICS is a very nice upgrade from HC - UI is more cohesive, much more hardware acceleration to make things snappy, and Chrome Browser for a better experience (I've forced Chrome Browser on to HC, but it's really not very stable there) .. I really enjoyed ICS when I forced a ROM on to my Tab, but spotty wifi and halving of battery life was something I couldn't live with. Need official stuff with official drivers, etc.

I've always liked HTC Build quality, I think they have bhe best build quality around. Owned them on and off since the early smartphone days and we got them as QTeks here... I generally don't treat my phones with kid gloves, and have never had an HTC die on me, and I've had them take really awful falls dozens of times over the years.

The iPhone is an attractive proposition for sure. In home & in-car entertainment being top of my list.

I didn't quite like the previous ones,had a sensation and the s2/iphone 4s were much better IMO.

The sensation was thick,had a CRAP screen and dust collected in between the screen and glass.I hated it and got rid of it very quickly,but the one thing the competition still cant do is that awesome sense UI only windows phone impresses me as much.With the One X ,HTC totally nailed it,its thin enough and has the best screen I have seen to date.Sense is still as awesome as ever!(dont forget to activate the weather unlock screen.)

I prefer it over the S3.

Ha! Yes, that's about it. And as every year goes by, iOS is more and more of a reason to get something else. I still have to use iOS devices now and then as part of my job, and going from WP7/Android back to iOS you realise just how far behind Apple are falling with their OS. They just have so much momentum, that they can get away with it.
