DroidTV MX or Roku?

I'm going to try an android TV box myself. I have enjoyed my Roku 3 immensely but I want more features like a browser.
Anyone interested, it's for sale in the classifieds.

I want a box rather than a pen drive type... something with at least 1Gb RAM, 1.2 dual core or higher, seperate GPU. Something like this:

I know I am going to miss the simple Roku interface and remote. Wifi remote FTW - it's awesome... and the headphone option is nifty for when you want to watch while the kids are asleep.

That's the same supplier I bought from. It's R50 cheaper on their website
 
OK, so I'm really tempted by the DroidTV MX now :D

I have two questions though

1.) Can you boot straight to XBMC?

Over here they say it can be done by using Startup Manager. Please can someone test this and confirm.

2.) Has anyone been using the Linux XBMC version in this unit?

Sure its still a Beta release, but there seem to be many issues still.

Yup - seemed to work fine. Its not beta anymore - its RC1. But I went back to Android because Android has more apps available, even if Android XBMC is only 720p compared to 1080p for Linux XBMC.

I believe there is an Android Samba Server application you can download or theres one on the Box already? I updated to the Linux RC firmware on Saturday and it works fine. Is it much better than Android? Not really, I actually miss all the other apps and might be heading back soon. I was interested in Linux because I read somewhere that someone had put his XBMC library on a Class 10 SD card and it really sped up navigation. I don't know how he did it because the Linux version mounts external storage as read only :(

I'm still searching the net and will let everyone know if I manage to get it right and if it really does make a difference
 
Oh and you can boot directly into XBMC. There is an XBMC Launcher on 1.1.6, just forgot how to choose it

Awesome... I'll test Android SMB tonight - it's arrived now. I think Android should be way better on the TV since it's more a mobile OS. That said, if you had time to setup Linux, you could have a more powerful unit I guess.

Re: SD on linux, I'm sure you can edit the mount details in fstab?

And just to add that I even received an email explaining how to setup my android phone as a remote. Buying from AV Supply was the best transaction ever... quick shipping and good communication.
