DSL Horror Story (Brace Yourself..)

luckily those rules are in the terms of use...NOT! I hate my life :P!

i'd advize ditching mweb asap, you might have to pay a extra month's notice though

yes, i phoned them just now (good service i must say) and asked them about it, it is 1 month notice.

Interesting development... I phoned telkom and after having been transfered 4 times they came to the conclusion that THEY HAD NEVER SET UP OUR ACCOUNT!!! i checked the invoices and they had charged us since January 2006!!! The guy on the line said that I must phone the accounts line and tell them to give me a credit, do you think they will? I worked it out and they owe me about R13,000...

i phoned and got transfered from line to line until office hours were over.. but they did say that i would be credited so R13k in my phone account here i come.... ;) will phone first thing in the morning and get this thing SORTED. cancel telkom, cancel mweb, cancel old ISP that had actually been charging us R480 per month...

CYBERSMART HERE I COME!!!! :cool::cool::cool:

If you haven't used the account in 3 years or whatever, can't you TRY get your money back?

i know i wouldnt get anywhere as it is a private ISP (like 2 guys) that my dad knows and sees for tech support (which is part of the package) and he knowingly paid for it as he wanted to keep the ISP email address.....:mad: hehe

PLEASE HELP!! URGENT
ok, i phoned telkom now, they say that I havent been using telkom as an ISP. The say iv just been renting the line from them and that iv been getting 2GB from them aswell, BUT THEY ARE NOT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN MY ISP. (?????) They say that i have another ISP (which i told them) and that they are the line rental and that if i cancel my telkom account, I won't be able to connect to the internet... but my MWEB account is all inclusive (R399 per month and i get 3GB cap - which on their website clearly says that it includes line rental).

they are obviously trying to not give me any credit and continue to have me paying them each month, right?
What must i tell them to get them to give me my credit? (which 3 telkom people told me was in order yesterday)

Please Help Me!!!

Thank you :(

I reckon you've got a long, hard battle ahead of you to get your money out of those F---ers. Dunno if it'll help, but I'd definitely get this story onto Hellopeter.com and contact the consumer complaints comission. Also, check out the "watchdogs" link on Hellopeter.
Hope you get your money and please keep us updated.

please keep us updated.

O my... I just spent the morning phoning telkom/mweb, trying to get this sorted and it has come to a horrible conclusion.. My father did NOT have his facts straight... he was paying R299 a month to mweb (he had never shown me an invoice for MWEB as he paid for the whole year at once, but was addament that he was paying R399) so we were just getting cap from MWEB and line rental from telkom (although at R285,96 apparently I have 3gb cap with telkom aswell?).

So I here we go, I truly am sorry to have wasted any of your time having given me advice (though it wasn't my fault as I was under the same impression you were). I appreciate all of the help though.

So here is my plan: :D
1. I am going to cancel my account with telkom (2/3gig? + line rental) - R285.96pm
2. Sign up with CyberSmart (3gig inclusive of line rental) - R259pm
3. Keep mweb for the rest of the year (as my dads already paid) and use the 3gigs on top of the cybersmart 3gigs.

What you guys think?

whew... hours and hours of holding on the line.. sorry again, i was misinformed..:o

Sounds like you were paying both MWeb and Telkom for the ADSL line rental. This shouldn't be possible, surely one of them would have noticed?

Of course they notice! They just hope that you will not see it!

It is up to YOU to claim back!
My Hellkom was down for 3 weeks! No Dslams available at my exchange.
Never got a refund!
I had to swear, curse and perform, until they eventually passed a "small" credit!

Paying for something that you are not getting the use of is THEFT!!

Oh and on the note of "THEFT" ... If your ISP sells you "BROADBAND" and you get LESS than 200kb/s one way, then my friends they are GUILTY of FALSE ADVERTISING!

Sounds like a great idea, esp as Cybersmart are prob gonna upgrade their 3GB accounts soon, but you're gonna miss those extra Mweb GB's when they eventually stop, LOL
