DSTv Bouquet breakdown

totally useless.. guess i'll stick to my HTPC for movies, eps and docus. catch the news
here and on rest of inet and watch the sports at bar/friends. not gonna pay R500 to get mnet, discovery and sport channels.

Multichoice if you're watching i'll pay R20 per channel if you just let me choose! Even if you have a minimum limit like you have to pick atleast 5 channels or something. Thats way way more than you get per channel the way it is now.

Cr@ppy advertorial.
Questions:
  1. Where's the choice in Multichoice?
  2. Why is DSTV advertised on DSTV - if you don't have it you won't see it? Like Eskom - no fkn choice!
  3. Every time DSTV get's asked the question about paying for individual channels the answer is "it's cheaper that way". Can we please se the numbers?
Where's the choice in Multichoice?

The only positive thing about the DSTV ads - it gives you time to go turn the boerewors on the braai, grab a beer, get rid of the previous beer... So, maybe leave the ads for now

DSTV is like cigarettes! U know it is bad for you and is costing you money. But you are addicted and it is difficult to quite!

- DSTV
- Smoking
+ Uncapped

works out about the same financially

I love DSTV for the sport channels.
My wife for the doccies/home channels.
My kids for animax/music.

PVR is worth the R500-odd per month!

I'm not saying DSTV is perfect or that I would not like to change things; personally I would want an option to choose and pay for only the channels of my choice.

/dons flame suit!

I'm guessing because the channels that they earn from are probably not the channels most people would choose. So you subsidise the existence of things like BBA and parliamentary by coughing up cash.

1. Where's the package without the SABC channels?
We all pay for the channels anyway, so they're included, if you don;t want them displayed, disable the channel number. (Warning: you need a proper PVR for this, ie MediaCenter)
2. Why is there no watered down package with some of the important sports channels such as SS1 and SS2?
Because SS channels are the only reason the subs are what they are. They are the reason people pay the R500+
3. Surely there should be a package with MNet and some other meaningful channels?
Shoulda, coulda, woulda. It's something about making - let's say - R1mil per month while supporting 2000 subscribers, or still making R1mil but having to support 20 000 subscribers. There is no competition, so why lower prices, only to increase work load?

I just surfed the DSTV forum and got the following reply for the question: "Why can't we pick the channels we want?"

MC Fathima's reply was:

"MultiChoice’s model is to provide pre-packaged bouquets. To accommodate customers viewing and lifestyle requirements, MultiChoice introduced tiering. It now offers four different bouquets, plus two specialised bouquets. We believe the model where customers choose their bouquet is not commercially viable. Not all channels are priced the same. It may be more expensive and unaffordable in some instances, should a customer choose only premium channels. A customer may therefore pay more and get fewer channels than the current bouquet options available."

Clearly they are not even considering our complains.

So the cheapest option to get MNET now is to get the PREMIUM DSTV account?

Compact needs to switch all those CRAP channels from 300 upwards for MNET and swop 203 and 204 for 201 and 202...

Best package is Easy View and the best channel is CNBCA. I do not then have to watch all the insults to intelligence elsewhere nor do I have to cringe at the local channels attempt at articulating/reading English.

I've forwarded this article to someone who does some of the MC market research, who knows, maybe it'll give them a kick in the butt to do something about this.
Otherwise, we just have to continue to wait for competition from ODM etc.

Untill we can select our own channels and not support TV1, 2, 3, ETV & soweto what *##@*! I have no interest in the #$*&@ they have to offer.
