DSTV cuts SABC Africa

cant actually believe dstv carried an sabc channel that they were not forced to. now we are paying more for all this lesotho, botswana junk that im sure that even ppl in those countries dont even watch. multichoice must just design a sports package, coz the rest of the junk - all remaining channels - i dont need!

I wish we don't have to pay SABC just for the right to own a tv set! - none of their channels are worth watching!

Its if you own a receiver, eg TV set with receiver OR VCR with receiver,
but you do get stand alone displays without receivers and even VCRs without
receivers which only tape the composite signal coming in.

If you own an LCD/Plasma display, my set is actually a stand alone display
where the input is the DSTV decoder and SABC was completely dropped by
SABC you could avoid the SABC TV Licence by then not owning any TV receivers or VCRs (with receivers). When analog TV signal is dropped completely in SA, analog TV receiver owners won't have to pay the TV Licence fees IF DSTV DROPS ALL SABC CHANNELS off DSTV.

well, enews is way better than sabc africa

I haven't noticed. E-News is like Al Jazeera, its owned by the same crowd.

For me, BBC World (1st spot), CNN (2nd), a distant Euro News (3rd) and a far away Sky News (4th).
We mostly watch BBC World and CNN Int'l.

Al Jazeera, E-TV News, Russian News and CCTV - all that propaganda can go to heck.
(It is all propaganda anyway - CCTV is about how great Red China is, Russian News is about how
great Russia is, Al Jazeera English while toned down from the Anti-US rhetoric in their Arabic version
[Al Jazeera Arabic is very anti-Western] is also propaganda, E-TV is similar anti-Western junk).

No ways. Thats like the only channel I watch on DSTV.

Now im so cancelling my service. Multichoice u sucked yesterday now you suck even more. sarcasm

Great!! Does this mean they'll pass the saving to us? Also why don't they ditch SABC1,2,3 so we don't have to pay the license?

Good riddance, I'd rather sit and watch the test pattern and sing the old South African anthem. On the subject matter there seems to be a whole lot of crap that has found it's way onto the DSTV bouquet, I'm sure if you look at the demographic you'll find that the majority of customers paying for the full bouquet fund crap like Soweto TV and the likes. And if you look at the cleverly crafted packages DSTV has on offer you will inevitably find you self screwed over if you don't take the full bouquet...well at least in my case. When are to going to see a DSTV where I can pick the channels I want and pay just for them ?

Wait........ I'm sure I just saw a SABC TV license van ride past, nice knowing you guys.....

Personally I find Euro News to provide a rather good International news roundup late evenings.

CNN is trash! BBC I can live with - but there is nothing more boring than British politics.

I also really enjoy Al Jazeera - It has some pretty good mini-documentary / segments it puts together and I find them to be reasonably impartial while giving viewers a side to a story that the BBC / CNN / SKY just wouldn't dare give you, this balances out the news channels that DSTV carries IMHO!

I would hope that someone who could identify the Propaganda in one channel could see it in all the others... for me CNN is almost unwatchable at times.

As for SABA Africa - I don't think i ever stopped there once while channel surfing, so no real loss. SABC will always be a state mouthpiece as it always was... not interested in listening to that garbage.

Al Jazeera is basically Islamist Radical propaganda, I'll spell that out clearly.

Euro News is basically almost as bad as SkyNews which is basically local
British news with goofy presenters. Euro News is virtually ONLY about
the European Commision and Parliament and focuses too much on regional
local nonsense (EU puts greater restrictions on chemical producers - is a typical story you'll see on Euro News.)

CNNi is just that - it's quite international and BBC I found carries little British only politics. I dunno about Fox (saw some of it and it was pretty bad). I haven't found the level of propaganda you see in Fox and Al Jazeera as I have found on CNN Int'l and BBC.
Both BBC and CNN seem very critical of Israel at times and they report on attacks and deaths of civilians in Iraq and Afganistan for instance. They also seem more down to earth than the likes of ABC etc.

I used to love etv's worldnow high lights

They showed the most interesting events from around the world. Today its only about malaria in africa.. or some other hopeless depressing subject. Woot

Peter... do you really believe that...? and i suppose that war in afgh/iraq was really about weapons of mass destruction?

the propaganda you are seeing on 1 channel is nothing but a different view on things. While you watch CNN you are viewing a bias that you have become accustomed to seeing and told is correct - by western media.

I like to watch both and make my own mind up - there is always 2 sides to a story and you now have the ability to see both... why not watch both with an open mind?

Chermobil has it right

I'm totally confused. This is a free-to-air channel in anycase.

Why would Choiceless PAY to broadcast it if it's pumping out from the pas 7 bird (intelsat7 satellite) free ?
or
Why would SABC demand payment from dstv to broadcast it if they transmitting over pretty much all of africa for free anyway?

I'm totally confused. what are they fighting about?

It's such a cr@p channel, E, france24 or CNBC are better news channels (if you don't have dstv), but if you really missing it, which is sad, you can tune into it on:
Frequency: 12722
polarisation: Vertical
FEC:1/2
Symbol Rate: 26657
NIT: yes

.

You need to view the Arabic version. Still the eng version is bad enough,
anti-west/Israeli. The propanda isn't always obvious on alj, neither is it typical
Iranian either nor was it ever pro Saddam Hussein. The me is a complicated place
with many players, not just the ones mentioned in this paragraph.

BTW i opposed the war too.

GENERATIONS soap!

 I live in Uganda and my very life survives on watching GENERATIONS EVERYDAY (on SABC Africa/DSTV)!! Its the one thing that I look forward to each week day. What will I do without watching GENERATIONS???:mad::(

GENERATIONS again! S.O.S

SABC Africa, by any chance can you give rights to another DSTV channel (say Africa Magic) to air GENERATIONS at least once a week? We could use the omnibus on Saturdays or Sundays. PLEASE COME TO MY RESCUE!
