DStv decoder, dish and installation price cut

Sob, I just saw an advert for a triple play package from Virgin on TopTV, 18 pounds a month for 65 channels, up to 10Mbps data and telephone. Are we being ripped here or what?!!
Squid, this is what we are all complaining about--see a large number of threads under the ADSL section of this forum. (this country is full of mono-craps, and each of the companies are in bed with each other--also known as 'price-fixing' consortiums).

I for one am glad that Multichoice is finally going to hurt a little. It turns me on in that masochistic kind of way, and I really don't feel guilty for it.

Retribution for all the bad service endured that could fill a whole journal over the years with multiple issues regarding their guides, programming, website, decoders, broadcasts and customer service or rather.. lack thereof.

I wish TopTV would release an on-line guide soon, I realise that we can look up some of the channels on the web but many are not listed. If I find their programming no worse than DSTV's then Multichoice can shove their products so far up their... let's just say, "where no one has gone before!"

Thanks squid66 :) I actually meant that you can find guides for some of the channels but not others, but this helps too.

I agree though, we should shift this to a TopTV thread.

I agree with da sentiments! Dstv don't care about existing customers! They should be trying to keep us!

6-7 week lead time on installations according to Pep (decoders hidden behind counter).

Rubbish.

Check the other threads , many people have it installed already as well as getting installations within a week.

If I were a DSTV client I'd be cheesed off big time... For years they've been milking their clients with no choice and high prices, now suddenly with competition here they have more options (and prices) to choose from.
Scary thing is - if TopTV doesn't make it (not that I think they won't) Multichoice is sure to put their prices up again and take away the choice again. Eish..
Also on the lead times on TopTV, my brother has the first installation in George, he waited 4 days from the day he bought the decoder to ready installed (the installer didn't have dishes as yet).

anyone know what the difference is between decoders?

Yes, DSTV is on MPEG2 and TopTV is on MPEG4. I am not sure about the CA module in TopTV but DSTV uses Irdeto 2 and TopTV does not.

Toptv Picture quality is so Lovely and Clear, used MC HDPVR, the sd channels from MC are nothing comparing To TTV, Oh My Word, Indeed My PVR Is My TopTv Platform :)
