DStv explains price increases

Come now people , let's be perfectly honest. All this tough talk on our part is not gonna make a lick of difference. 95% of the DSTV subscribers is just gonna get some more vaseline handy and bend over some more until next year's increase ( rinse and repeat ). DSTV knows this full well and the 5% that cancels won't mean a thing to them because the 95% that pays R30 more will fully negate the loss and still leave them with crazy profits.

I'm not as naive to believe that canceling my subscription will hurt them in the slightest. In my case I'm going to cancel as a matter of principle and I don't feel that I'm getting my money's worth with DSTV anymore. Especially at almost R700 a month. TopTV here I come....

Um, I think you will find that those are canceling their DSTV to send them a message are also doing it as a matter of principle.
They just want to send a message to DSTV at the same time.

Let the people do what they want, cancel for your own reasons, but don't try to crap on those who feel justifiably angry about it.

To pay their staff more, to build bigger buildings, to replace the ageing fleet of Mercedes Benzes for the Directors, certainly not to improve their service, which is why I went to TopTV and am very pleased I did!! DStv is nothing but a television retailer, and everyone knows retailers' motivation for being in business - PROFIT. Service delivery? What's that?

Just out of curiosity: When did I ever say or imply that people shouldn't cancel their subscription? I was simply being realistic about the ultimate outcome and MC's take on it in all probability .

Maybe you'd like to explain to us how it would affect MC if only 5% ( and that's a generous estimation ) of their subscribers cancel because of the hike in subscription fees?

For me it's an issue of value, am I getting the full value for the USD78 (+USD9 for HD) I pay for my premium bouquet? Nope!!!

I also don't see why I pay to be shafted every month. I mostly watch sport (which I can go watch with my fam/buddies) and documentaries (which I can d/l). Stuff mnet and all the other crap channels. Uncapped here I come!

I know you're being realistic... the 95% are the ones who think are middle-class, but are fast sliding into the lower quartile by the day, because of the actions of monopolies like MC, VC, MTN and the retailers... Unless the middle-class join the party, it's never gonna change. My argument against your point is that what we're trying to do here is get the critical mass -not only online but also by word of mouth... and that's why (if you check on my earlier posts) I suggest that we have a day, like 1st april, when we could have gathered that critical mass of disconnections...

Aye! totally agreed on that. Even if it would seem as if such a exercise would have little if any effect on MultiChoice in my mind, I would still support it out of principle like I said in one of my earlier posts, I am just as tired of the corporate moneygrabbing scum like Telkom and Mnet/MC et al.
