Is their user base really increasing, in order to make this necessary? I would have thought since more and more people are realising the alternatives, they would be needing less and less capacity.

I love space, I love this stuff I want to visit NASA's museum so badly!
The whole article is about the satellite launch, don't see how its off topic . . .
More so Kevin should't have such a general topic headline "DStv gets more satellite capacity", Should read more along the lines of "DStv launches backup satellite - Picture timeline"
With Telkom still in the picture many people don't have a alternative. Is their user base really increasing, in order to make this necessary? I would have thought since more and more people are realising the alternatives, they would be needing less and less capacity.

Is this the satellite that will make the SD PVR's unusable?
SA is not the only country with buggy software running on the PVRs.
Helping a relative to get Freeview Plus going in Australia led me to some interesting findings about just how crappy their HbbTV PVR software is.
Yes as MC plan to move some channels on to the new satellite on hi-band transponders, which MC conveniently by not updating the sw on the SD PVR, now claim the SD PVR is "unable to receive channels on hi-band transponders". This claim is total BS as the SD PVR and older decoders are technically capable of receiving hi-band signals, provided the decoder sw is changed to allow access to the hi-band transponders..
In fact up to about 3 years ago, there was a period when the SD PVR was receiving a few channels on a hi-band transponder on IS 7/10 .....
So when it suits them MC will "open up" the sw .![]()
