LOL!!!
Geez guys...
I'm hacked off too at the little niggles that the decoder has but it still delivers HD CONTENT to my TV via the airwaves. NO OTHER product can do that for me at the moment.
I'm not happy with the level of service, but I haven't taken my decoder back either...
I read alot of moaning and "anti-monopoly" speak here, and sure... you have some points to make. But really, go get a massage or something... de-stress and pop a few prozacs.
"Monochoice" IMO, besides their failure at thinking this whole "HD MALARKEY" through properly, provides world class content at a relatively competitive price. IN THE FOOT OF AFRICA, no less.
I'm pissed off that my HD decoder has defects, sure I'm annoyed that I spent money on it and I have complaints... But at least I can watch my programs in HD!
I'm probably inviting a flamefest, but I'm sick of reading "Boo Hoo's" and "BAH, Humbugs!"
Enjoy watching your blood pressure rise at the mere mention that somewhere out there someone said "At least they're trying..."
At least I can watch the rugby on Saturday in HD.
Just allow people to give credit where credit is due... THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT...
And in response to Chubster...
That is exactly why I don't like to name brands... Coz at the end of the day its the internal electrical, graphical components and so forth which all combine to provide an overall "Picture", not just the panel.
Which is exactly why I say that people should rather select a product which they feel they'd get the most pleasure out of.
I want to stay away from TV's since i truely believe your eye should be the judge and not some guy's opinion. So I'll give an audio related example
I have a mate who swears by "brand X" in the audio equipment sphere. I don't want to name names... but the brand starts with a "B" and ends in a "OSE".
A good example of a brand that has enjoyed a fantastic market response for delivering far inferior products at inflated prices... called their JVC components something fancy like "Acoustimass", package them in the wrong size speaker cabinets, and sell them for an obscene amount of money. Just coz they mimic B&O's "form over function... yet its expensive enough to make you believe it sounds phenomenal".
Same with TV's, some brands have a massive brand power punch behind them but their product may not necessarily be all its inflated to be.
Some LCD's have very good specs, Contrast ratio's and response times etc etc, but when you look at the picture, "Black" just isn't black... or "red" is so red that it makes the blue next to it look purple.
That's why... look closely, from different angles and distances, compare and select the one that you think has the best picture!
After all... you're the one who's gonna have to watch it!
Final thought... tell the sales person to F*#K OFF! you're just browsing!
