DSTV HD-TV on track

interesting. I assume they will not only make us get the decoder but also fork another R100 or something each month.

Sport and movies will no doubt be awesome in 5.1 too. Sounds promising but at a price i'm sure.

What is it with South African companies and not EVER being able to commit to a date for launches and new products??? Pathetic.

Be interesting to know how many of their subscribers actually have HDTV's. I can't see it being that many yet.

I'm HDTV ready, just not Multichoice ready - damn PVR's are too pricey and the truth us I hardly spend time infront of the TV. Only ever really use it for pirated avi's and Xbox360!!!

Watson said:
said, however, that Multichoice could not commit to an actual date for the launch of HD television or the specific channels that would be launched.
so whats new? so when they dropping the price increase bombshell?

Okay, so I have spent R3k on a PVR... Now I need to spend another huge amount on an HD-ready PVR? So I am going to effectively spend money on upgrading my decoder every year or so because Multicrap can't future-proof any of their devices? Idiots.

Wasnt the HDMI decoder supposed to be released late last year? I 2nd Kasyx on this though cause I already paid a couple grand for the PVR, now gotta fork out for the new one on top of the R550pm subscription for what really is very limited and repeated entertainment!

Gotta admit though - its a very good looking PVR and they upgrading it to include 4 tuners which is pretty sweet!

As far as I know this isn't a South african problem. Just ask Microsoft, they're pros at late delivery.

If I remember correctly, when DSTV started, they had many manufacturers supplying decoders, one of them being PACE. If I also remember correctly, MultiChoice quietly stopped support for the PACE decoders when they moved to (the more inferior IMHO) local UEC for decoders.

Wonder if this will happen again....

I think we will have to buy new decoders and dishes to get HD and then buy new decoders and dishes again when they release widescreen HD. Nowhere does it mention this HD upgrade will be widescreen?

Well it is great to here, that it is on track.

A worrying factor for me is that all the shops are "pushing" HD TV's but wrongfully so, the are telling customers half truths, yes it will enhance the viewing experience, but, only when HDTV content becomes available, HD-DVD's, blu-ray and gaming consoles are at this stage the only hd content available. A freind of mine got an HD-Tv recently and he insisted that the rugby looked "way better" on his HD set than on my computer with an LCD, and he started to explain to me how "good the HD thing" is.... I just smiled and imagined him in a HiFiCorp shirt.

Then from the article:
"PACE TDS 850 decoder customised for DSTV using four tuners."

Does this mean pace will deliver an enhanced version of the TDS850? Because the "normal" one, as used by some other European providers, according to specs from the peace data sheets, is only a 3 tuner model... Will this mean we will be able to record 2 watch 2 or record 1 watch 3, and all the other possible permutations thereof or will it be a fixed setup, meaning watch 2 record 2?

The 4 tuners is not what the upgrade was about - they obviously changing the OpenTV firmware so as to 'hide' their precious EPG from anyone else on the planet.
