DSTV HD-TV on track

I really really would like to watch sports and movies on HDTV. International channels the same, yesterday Portuguese cup final looked crap on SIC Internacional, although the cameras were really dynamic, if there was HD, it would be breathtaking.

I can't find the part where the 1080 part is scratched out and we will only see 720...1080 would be lovely

Choiceless rip us into next week, show us cr@ cheap channels, and won't even buy more transponder space so compress everything to hell, probably the WORST picture in the world, certainly for the price!!

In my old 50-something cm TV I never complained about the quality, but with my new 42" I can't believe how low quality goes.

mercurial surely must be stuck to the oldies :p

I don't know what you guys are on about? The video quality is good.
 
With a 52cm CRT TV, I don't really have too many issues with DSTV's quality on their main channels either.

The Indian Bouquet, however is beyond redemption. I can't even watch it for more than 10 minutes without getting really annoyed at the compression artifacts (luckily the shows are so awful I can't actually watch them for more than 2 minutes without losing the will to live) and I don't understand how people actually can (for both of the above. :D). The quality is shockingly bad, viewed on a huge LCD it's even worse. Someone who cares should really complain.

Again, playing devil's advocate, there are very few quality shows that they aren't showing or will be eventually, and due to the WGA strike, they actually aren't very far behind on a lot of them. Sport is the bread & butter of paytv, they don't spend & show craploads of it for fun, it's simply what pays the bills. My main problem is that they spend half a day building up for the Springboks vs. Tonga or something, but we're lucky to get half an hour for the Proteas vs. Aus.

I also saw it, last time I looked they just looped the rugby world cup over and over, think it was the game against England in the group stages.

Channels name was HD-TEST if memory serves... It did not have the commentary or the supersport branding or ads for that matter, so i recorded it, lol, Think this is how MC got the rugby directly from France...

EDIT: Obviously I got it in SD, seeing as I have a normal DSTV decoder, and a normal SD-TV...

Hmm, from my PVR I have the signal going out to a wall socket (which has a female connector like that which accepts feed from the satelitte. Then all the other rooms receive signal through the analog input of the TV. How will this affect my setup?

Dish --> PVR --> Wall Socket --> Other rooms --> TV (Analog)
 
DSTV electrical standards?

Last night I submitted the following questions to DSTV (via the company's website). I have yet to get a response. If anyone knows the answers to these questions, please would you post them?

There's a lot of hype about HD, being in the UK over christmas and seeing what little channels did offer it?

you will watch tv or whatever channel the pvr is showing on the output. Also i am running the same setup. Arial input RF-converter(for the sat tv output one which inputs that into analog out aswell) to mnet decoder to Dualview sat(obviously it has it's sat input) to video to splitter which goes to tv and other tv's in the house.
Obviously if you good input the output should be ok, but if your starting signal looks bleak it just degrades badly over the long aerial wire
 
No fixed date for HD PVR to retail. Hopefully by the end of the year.
Multiview needs to be stable first.
Yes it will support HDMI.
It should have SPDF, component, RCA, USB, HDMI, SATA and scart connectors on the back of the unit.

I got a free router when I upgraded to ADSL?

And it wasn't from ISDN, it was from POTS!

That's probably because you had to sign a 24 month contract in which case the router is not free.

I agree with you that it "should" support all those electrical standards... but perhaps my original question should have read, WILL it have those standards? :confused:

samsat: Did you make your statement (above) because you happen to have an "inside track" to the technical boffins at multichoice? If so, please may I be your friend? ;)
