DStv launches new HD PVR

Ditto satanboy.

What is the difference between the existing HD PVR 2P and this HD PVR 2U model?

MultiChoice confirmed that the current HD PVR 2P, which is also priced at R1,499 per month, will continue to be available alongside the new locally manufactured HD PVR 2U.

Guess they actually want to stop selling those then...

The P for Pace and U for UEC..:D

I would also like to know if there are any feature differences.

Yup, whats the feature diff - I think dolby is new... but what else?

/grabs popcorn ... waits for the complaints and bug reports to start rolling in!

The HD PVR 2U, two- tuner PVR, offers one recording environment and one viewing environment, independent of each other. It also offers the ability to fast forward, pause, use slow motion and rewind live TV.

The PVR can record up to 150 hours of standard definition programming or 50 hours of high definition programming. It can also be linked to any of DStv’s Xtraview-enabled decoders and PVRs to provide an additional viewing environment.

Other features include a 24-hour i-Plate, Dolby 5.1 surround sound capability, favourite channels selection, series record, full parental control and aspect ratio toggle.

Congrats. You lowered your cost base, didn't add anything new to the "new" model and still maintain the same price point.

EDIT: Well seeing as I'm apparently not allowed to post a picture of our tripartite monopoly alliance bending us over for a tantric ravishing, let me just say this to Monochoice: ..|. .|..

Sister in law in Jhb has a Pace 4 tuner PVR, with the extended warranty. After a lightning storm 3-4 years ago, took it in to MC in Randburg. Terrific queue, at least 100 people there with dead PVRs. After 75 mins she got to the counter and was presented with a questionnaire about the installation. Was the dish earthed, who did the installation, had the house electrics been inspected recently, why did she specify the insurance option (strange question she thought). Cannot supply you with replacement until have inspected your installation, as it might not conform. She called her sister who is an attorney and described what was going on. The counter clerk wanted her to leave, but she held on the phone for 10 mins until her sister had spoken to someone at MC Randburg. All of a sudden someone appeared with a new PVR in a box, a smart-card in a folder and a box of chocolates! Sorry for the misunderstanding, we made a mistake with your account, a real bs excuse.

Any of these devices can fall over if the lightning hits the dish or close by. Even with an earthed dish the induced current will fry the LNB and PVR.

So dj's comment above is spot-on I think
