DStv limiting concurrent streams from March 2022

ANC politics have caused me to lose all interest in SA Sport.

I get all the international sport I have time to watch, elsewhere.

For sport, I only need one connection, not everyone at home appreciates sport, so additional connections are required to accommodate them.

No need to try so hard to be an apologiest for DSTV

I'm no apologist for dtsv. But you are comparing Netflix that has old tv series and movies to something that has new movies and all the best sport.
Isn't Shomax about the same as Netflix? They not affected by this? Showmax comes with your dstv subscribtion?

I'd wager that, excluding sport, Netflix produces far more content than Multichoice. DSTV is also laden with channels dedicated to older shows and repeats.

I honestly wouldn't care what DStv does to make access to their content difficult if they weren't the only way to get legal access to content.

There was no easy, legal, way to access the Winter Olympics, other than via "official" broadcasters, of which DStv was one in South Africa.

Netflix has old TV series - really? Their original shows are old?

That is news. Not to mention Disney +, HBO, Hulu, BritBox, Acorn TV, Paramount +, and a host of others.

Showmax is basically a repackaged DSTV, same junk different cellophane wrapper.

Like I said - best sport - does not equate to South African sport. These days I watch English Premier League football, and IPL cricket courtsey of Sky and BT.

You sure are defending DSTV as if you owe them something.

I wonder how many would take up such an option, if people are only paying R900 for premium because of sport.

So how can such a big company, not release a Sports only package? I'm guessing they fear that more people would just cancel their premium packages.

I watched the Lions series. I watched some of the India cricket series. I watch IPL.

I was suggesting sport at our provincial level - curry cup, super 15 etc and whatever local cricket tourneys nowadays - not watched even one game. Not even 5 minutes of any one game.

I took out a R225 Showmax subscription for soccer. I only really watch soccer these days a couple of times per week so that should be fine. I just need to find a way to stream it on my PC as its an Android subscription. I tried Bluestacks but for some reason, it never streamed from there.

The sub-premium subscriber base is growing and they're growing in multiple African countries. I have no idea how DSTV operates outside of SA, wonder if this change affects other countries too.

Seems their bread and butter is the lower packages in SA and elsewhere, not sure if the same concurrent **** is being done elsewhere. They must be confident in not giving af about bleeding Premium SA customers .

I do not know, nor care, their claim has always been that the cost of Sport is killing them, now they seem to be abandoning the segment that was their bread and butter, to become a half loaf, and chips broadcaster.

Maybe the real issue is that bandwidth to their servers is maxing out (or servers can't handle the number of connections) and they don't want to pay for more of either. Solution, limit the number of connections.
