DStv limiting concurrent streams from March 2022

Im amazed SA Sport havent created their own channels, like Disney+, Hulu, Netflix etc.

They could made Shiploads of money more than what DSTV is giving them. Imagine getting all the advertising revenue and viewing revenue online too.
Multichoice pen the rights?

Netflix got clever. And they simply monitor that most are generally connecting to the same wifi network now and then, and not using a different IP completely all the time. They can track this with viewer habits too.

Netflix got clever? Since when? My login is used from four separate networks, and often from a different country for VPN.

What are the alternatives for local sport though? DSTV seem to have a monopoly over local sport.

This isn't how you "catch up" with the competition multichoise.

It's mind blowing that DSTV cannot grasp the concept that there are legitimate reasons why you would want to stream more than 1 device at a time in the same household.
Multichoice are stuck in the 80's when the whole family would gather around the 1 household TV in the lounge at night to watch their favourite show. Only very wealthy people could afford 2 picture boxes and if they could afford that then they could afford 2 MNet subscriptions.

Also, in the 80's, there was no competition so you didn't have to care about what your customers wanted.

I don't approve this move by the DSTV/Multichoice directive, and I honestly don’t believe that they have placed much thought into this other than being reactionary to a perceived problem they are unable to solve. For me, in my view, the issue is price.

This reaction is evasive. Instead, by better valuing the product, with more accessible price positioning, they limit access within the current scheme to persuade more sales.

Does Multichoice evaluate the concurrent streams, did they properly assess the consumer use case, or did they deem most concurrent streams as piracy? Their reaction is indicative to the latter.

This statement,

“As part of our ongoing efforts to counteract password sharing and piracy, while continuing to bring you the best viewing experience, we will be introducing measures to limit concurrent streaming.”

is what I perceive as anti-consumer. Families also want to enable their respective households with the best multi viewing experience.

Does anyone know if the change in terms and conditions allow you to break your contract without penalty?

This is a big problem.

If you a rugby and cricket fan for example and want to watch the six nations and say a cricket even you need 2 x accounts now. That is R829 x 2 just because you want to watch 2 sport events at the same time.

I usually watch my main sport even on the tv and then have my laptop open on the side with the second sport even I'm following. This is no longer possible unless I fork out more cash. It feels like a money grab by DSTV.
Don't you have a dish ?
