DStv Lite versus TopTV

I will be a loyal supporter of TopTv for R219 I get variety, ultimate movies and knowledge - does Dstv offer me that at the same price nope.

Who was thinking of going for the R99 channels - everyone I spoke to are either going for the R159 package or R219 - nice to see some competition.

Trust me TopTv are going to really spend money to get their brand out there - after SABC and Multichoice/DSTv have refused to air their adverts - Seems like tension is really there and ETV was the only channel to advertise TopTv adverts

Both are crappy. I think the total cost of the decoder, dish and installation should also be mentioned in the article. R499 at the moment for TopTV and about R1000 for DSTV. Those are things that people who can only spend R99 a month on TV should be aware of.

Well said.

@SaiyanZ I've to fully agree with you the R499 Launch Price - includes the whole entire package decoder - dish - lnb - cabling - mounting brackets - and the installers labour. I know R99 is nothing for some people but for others they'll benefit - News I'd watch but not religious channels - and TopOne. http://teeveetee.blogspot.com/2010/05/breaking-toptv-call-centre-crisis-toptv.html shows you a lot about TopTv already - their is demand for their service - but they do not care running at a loss - Advertising will cover the cost over time - I like their business module - run at a loss get enough subscribers - then show your clients(advertisers) your user base. Reminds me when CellC launched the first day in South Africa you paid like R50 and received over R300 of airtime

ok, for an additional R50, you can't compare the 2 packages, hell, R520 vs. R249 for the full bouquet TopTV looks like the winner. It looks like the additional R270 for DSTv is mainly for SuperSport and MNET.

TopTV has already sold out their stock for May--it tells you something. Would be good to see how many actually jumped ship.

It would be but right now I suspect a lot of people are testing the waters while keeping both rather than just picking the one.

Unfortunately, that's basically what most people have DSTV for :(

I am holding out still, but I think end of this year I will be switching or just canceling DSTV all together.

also dstv installation depends on who does it... and where. u may pay R1000 in the city. We live in rural areas and R1500 is minimum you'd pay. With TopTV its R499 no matter where you are... TopTV pays the installers to travel, not the customer.

Yes im also tired of listening to that voicemail of them, when will they answer their phones? I left my details more than ten times on their voicemail.

Anyone who's had the experience of being in a hotel in a foreign land with "57 channels and nothin' on" will know that number of channels counts for squat when you don't have anything you want to watch. It's like having SABC and E broadcasting on 57 channels with different programmes (but still SABC programming).

I will wait to hear what the programming is like before deciding it's worthwhile. I am happy with not having to pay for TV other than the SABC ripoff tax.

If I want something, I will download it. No need to pay for programming that pre determined by somebody else.

I dont see pay tv making it past the next 20 years.

Dear gawd, comparing the two is like comparing which turd stinks less.
LMAO @ the music channel selection. Channel O for DStv and Top Gospel for TopTV...damn.

On the 1st of May I changed from DStv Premium to Select 2 and to be honest, I feel like I am on one of these R99 packages now expect I have KykNET and MK.
As soon as I can download Binnelanders everyday I'm canceling my DStv all together.
