Hi

I have a problem sometimes with my picture on dstv's movie channels, there is a little stripe bar on top of the screen. I have a 32" lcd.

Just check the image i uploaded

PS: my buddy got the same prob on his 52cm tv.

Just want to know why the stripes appear on certain channels & movies.

Thanks

I get the same on my 50" Sammy plasma. I'm interested to know what it is too.

I was just watching that movie, but have you guys set your aspect ratio?

Maybe it will help?

I have the same issue on my 32" LCD, will change aspect settings and see if it makes a difference

Had the same yesterday on 2 of the channels only - seems to be dependent on the broadcast stream received form the EU...

Was the problem resolved? Have seen this on my CRT as well. Can't change the aspect since the CRT blew a fuse last night.

You have the decoder set on letterbox. If it's an SD decoder, set it to pillarbox or stretched.

I've actually been getting royally pissed off by this latest ARC nonsense from DStv. I have had a 32" LG set for over a year and have had absolutely no problems with my aspect ratio until DStv started sending us all these messages about their change in T&C's. Now, on many channels the AR is totally wrong, regardless of the settings I have on the decoder.

If I opt for the 16:9 settings it looks fine on 101 and some other channels, but then on other channels I have the pillar box effect (black bars on left and right of the screen). WTF? If I go for the stretched screen then the M logo is right up against the edge of the screen and a lot of the adverts are being clipped. I could care less about the ads, but the fact is they have definitely changed something recently and I'm glad to see I am not the only person with the issues.

DStv - get your sh*t together!!!

Definitely, I've tried a whole bunch of settings on my 50". I use 16:9 coz everything else looks horrible (who wants to stretch an SD source over a 50", no thanks), but often the ads have the pillar box effect as you mention. Seems like we can't win. Plus, I have those strange lines at the top of the movie channels. I do set my TV up for 16:9 too, not auto, so that shouldn't be stuffing with it either.

It you TV set to 16:9?

Is overscan enabled / disabled on your TV? Check this setting.

Is your DSTV decoder set to 16:9? (under menu, advance, tv installation)

Yeah, both decoder and tv set to 16:9. BUt I'll check the overscan business, never seen/heard of that before.
Its quite possible I'm doing something wrong, but for the life of me I can't get it to be consistent.

Have you guys checked to see if the settings on the actual decoder are also set correctly? Mchoice suggested it be on auto on the decoder. And then check that the TV setting is not on auto (as this would change all the decoder settings coming in.
