DStv premium vs 4Mbps uncapped ADSL

Can anybody comment on the streaming quality using netflix/hulu/sports streaming sites through smartvillage network?

How much bandwith do you have?
Netflix automatically scales from 240 to 1080p depending on how much bandwidth you have.
You can get DVD Quality (480p/576p) on about 1.0Megabit, add DD5.1 and you need around 1.5Megabit.
720p needs 2.4Megabit, add another 0.4Mb for DD5.1
 
I would ditch DSTV but after today's constant rain and cable theft in general, I think DSTV will stay a while longer.
 
DSTV Drifta looks great on my Samsung Note 2's display.

Mmmm....might dump my subscription.
 
Just cancelled my Mnet, no questions asked, probably got another 10 guys lining up to subscribe.
 
My folks are visiting me this week, my dad has been binge watching Netflix :D All the kung-fu movies he could ever watch and easy subtitle options.

I swopped my DSTV premium account for 4mbps 75GB bundle from AH and enjoy my Netflix and all other online content. Watching tv when I want and what I want, as soon as it's aired in the US. And it's cheaper....

Dstv is a loosing game. They offer too little too late. ATV & Airplay is my tv's new best friend.

What about Netflix's almost complete absence of top current TV shows? Doesn't that present a problem? Especially for series, I think Netflix is overrated, it's really like the Series Channel, but on demand... it's more a movie service, which isn't surprising considering it's beginnings as a DVD rental company.

Edit: I assume you just leech the latest shows? While it's certainly a solution, I don't think it's a reasonable argument against pay-tv, as pay-tv is just as overpriced as DSTV the world over.

Well I'm happy with StarSat. The repeats are much cheaper. If I want to watch rugby, I stream it. Many sites to choose from.

Gotta agree Hulu is more up to date - checked black list and some others last night, released same time as you can download

Even though I don't have a DStv subscription any more I'd join this initiative just on principle!
Thing is, I don't think people have the will power to go a month on SABC/etv (those without good internet, I mean).

The answer is to change your mindset. Netflix gets shows 6months later, in most cases. Sometimes sooner. That's not long if you ask me.
