DStv - recommended new shows

BTW, Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss is in the new Box Office movie "The Invisible Man". She plays a sort of parallel character in it... we enjoyed it.

Some availability info re ESPN since MC are being st00pid about the details; ESPN 1 (218) is for Family package upwards, info for ESPN 2 (219) was more confusing - according to Thinus it's on Premium and "Compact" - so he may mean it's including Compact and Compact Plus, or just the latter.

If anyone from MC is reading this - please don't let your what's on / news section endlessly get filled with repetitive desperate-for-subscribers and less-than-useful info, it discourages reading so is counter-productive as we have to wade through the masses of krahp as well. Ta

Hi Brian. You seem quite into DSTV. Could you assist in setting up a petition against the new movie channel changes. Thank you.

I think I might cancel DSTV. They’re starting to become frustrating. First they cancel Sundance Movies channel and now they want to combine the rest. How’re we expected to function like this?

I think it’s time to get a internet + Netflix.

They’re combining the 6 movie channels into Movies1, Movies2, Movies3 and Movies4.
Don't see that as a problem to be honest, I mean one of the channels 110 is constantly showing Lethal Weapon, like everytime I happen to go to the lounge and turn the TV on, it's Lethal Weapon, than Beverly Hills Cop.

Thanks for the info. @abzo , my days of petitioning are over, sorry ;- )
But would likely sign.
Lots of other bad effort going on by them right now - far too many kiddie / lady movies for any real balance, excessive old movies on new movie channels (yes we know it's a hard time but still very overdone), riddiculous "Chritmas in July" movies EVERYWHERE.
hope they wake up soon, at least their sports people took a good leap forward...

Suggestion: Do what we're doing, look at ALL movie channels and record in bulk for tough times ahead. 137/138/140 good for older generation interests. Already got 30 unwatched and a dozen or so planned further :D :giggle::p

EDIT: Beware 138 & 140 scheduling. One night I had a movie 7 minutes early and later one that was 20 minutes late!!
For them I now use manual recordings with massive 45 min. "safety net" buffers either side! A mess, but worth it.

I don't get this Chistmas in July crap everywhere. It's on Raru and everywhere. Why is it a thing??

A warning:

DSTV has tampered with the EPG for the e-tv channels in the last 24 hours, so recordings set on those channels may be failing, especially SBRs.

When doing an Explora search, here's a new trick to make it easier to ignore the channels of no interest.
But it's only helpful for adult households.

Go into the parental guidance section and mark all unwanted channels for blocking.
Now when you do a search the unwanted results titles have a key icon next to them, no further concentration needed.
Works for word-search as well.

According to dstv on twatter ESPN2 is for Compact Plus and Premium only

Yes apparently DSTV Family access to ESPN2 is only for Rest Of Africa. I re-looked at the Thinus article and Family actually says (Mozambique) in brackets afterwards - sneakily.

 I don't get it?

“From September 1, SuperSport viewers on DStv will be able to enjoy special dedicated channels for leagues and sports, among them the PSL, the Premier League, La Liga, rugby, cricket, golf, tennis, motorsport and several others, which will now have a home to call their own,” SuperSport said.

So how is that different? Specific sport has always also been specific to its channels, mostly if it's a popular one. For instance, cricket on SS2. used to be regular on SS5 as well, until the excess of soccer mixed things up a bit, but it's primarily still on SS2...
Plenty other examples. Can anyone explain what they're actually doing now?

Sky Sport has been doing it like this for a while - I thinks it's just a copycat naming thing - assuming it's easier to remember a channel name than a number. And off course giving soccer a much higher priority!

Ah, thanks, didn't pick up that the channels will have such names. Otherwise the same.
They copy a lot, usually not helpful in these very different demographics.

MC giveth, and MC taketh away. Although the giveth currently seems a little disproportionate to the takething
